2006-07: Week 22

BURTON AND DISTRICT CLUBS SNOOKER LEAGUE REPORT BY DAVE BUDWORTH In the Just Wood Premier Division, Belvedere A has bounced back with a top notch win at Newhall A. Craig Keen improved his averages, Alan Davies got back to winning ways and Ryan Gilmore topped it off with a 46 break. Only Martin Hicks dented the Belvedere attack by taking a frame against Daz Lester. Spot On A suffered their eighth defeat to Willington A. Gary Barker and Jan Pawlazych put Willington four up as Spot On’s Tony Clements and Steve Gaunt began the near perfect reply. Bill Stewart took Willington’s winner in a match that could have gone either way. Burton Cons B are finding some form in the latter stages of the season and this week saw off Rolleston A. Mitch Hughes and Tim Hodgkinson took one a piece against Kev Norris and Danny Thomson respectively. Zaheer Hussain then added one more as Rob Sanders took the other with a 38 break but Shaun Golding put the icing on the cake by taking the only win of the evening. Swad SC B had their best chance of a win for some time, but even with a 51 break from Matt Morgan the match went to Ivanhoe A when Tony Eyre picked up the final frames against Phil Ball. Swad Cons A pulled off a good win at home to Belmont A. Dave Clark took the first two but Belmont’s Ian Archer levelled at 2-2. Paul Berry then ensured the draw and the winner came from Kev Dixon as he shared with Steve Burton. In Presidents Division 1, Woodville WMC has proved beyond doubt that they are too good for this division. They have had a few lack lustre matches but in the main have sent the opposition packing. This week Tutbury B obliged by giving all the frames away bar one, which was won by Mark Press. It looks like a three horse race between Swad SC C, Tutbury A and Ivanhoe C for the final two promotion places. They all won their matches although Ivanhoe did especially well against a weakened Burton Cons C. Stapenhill B had no trouble defeating bottom team, Swad SC D. Mark Parry, Ivor Rees and Steve Ford shone with two each as Swad’s only reply came from Andrew Bloor. Belmont B is back in with an outside chance of promotion as they trounce Drakelow but they will need more big wins to get there. In Furniture King Division 2, both Swad SC F and Measham are enjoying regular wins and should be looking forward to their encounters next season in division 1. Burton Cons D has found it difficult this season but recently has started to get some fair results. This week they held Ivanhoe D to a draw who were fancied promotion but seem to be letting it go to either Swad SC E or Alrewas A. Alrewas B was victorious against Swad SC G. The score stood at 3-3 until Micky Morris dominated the final match against Simon Nettle. The Swad Cons derby between C and B teams ended in favour of the latter as Richard Redfern took the only win of the match. In David Wain Insurance Division 3, John Carr D was predictably on form against Rolleston B. Tim Farrington took the consolation point against Mark King. Rolleston D took an important win against Stapenhill C to keep their promotion hopes alive. The scores were level until the final game where Adam Farrington put the match out of Stapenhill’s reach. Willington B and Belmont C ended all square after Belmont’s Jim Parkes took the last two frames. This was repeated at Woodville S&S when Newhall D’s Steve Oakey won the last game to take a share of the points. No card received from Rolleston C – 2pt penalty.
