2006-07: Week 5

In the Just Wood Premier Division, Swad SC A has taken top spot in impressive style at Willington A. Brett Bailey and John Chambers were the players in form on the night for Swad. Brett had breaks of 37 & 35 quickly followed by John’s contribution of 43 on the other table.

Belvedere Park B also had a good victory with their second consecutive whitewash, this time against Burton Cons B. In the first half of the draw all the frames went down to the final colours, including a respotted black which went in the favour of Craig Keen as Tim Hodgkinson fouled. This gave Belvedere the momentum to take the rest of the frames easily. Mitch Hughes had to settle for a total clearance of the sandwiches after the match.

Burton Cons A let the coveted top position slip when they hosted the match with neighbours Spot On A. The Cons found themselves looking at a possible defeat when they only took one frame out of the first four as Trevor Heath and Tony Clements (31 break) punished any errors. Fortunately for the Cons, Mat Milnes and Jonathan Fletcher saved the match by taking the rest of the frames, Fletcher hitting a 37 break in the process.

Ivanhoe A maintained supremacy over their B team by a narrow victory. As all games drew George Cawkwell kept a calm head and took both frames from Trevor Wilson.

Swad SC B got back on track at the expense of Swad Cons A. John Taylor (30 break) and Bill Davidson put pressure on Swad Cons by taking their games but the Cons Kev Dixon & Paul Berry (32 break) could only reply by sharing the points with Phil Ball (36 break) & Matt Morgan respectively.

Rolleston A took their second win of the season against Belmont A. Only Steve Burton secured Belmont’s points as Anthony Rushton, Robert Sanders & Danny Thomson took advantage of the situation. Danny has obviously recovered from his previous defeat, which his team say is all down to therapy.

In Presidents Division 1, Woodville WMC A chalked up another victory, although this was a harder match against promotion hopefuls Stapenhill B. Scores were level as Mark Satchwell and Mark Parry took their frames, but Woodville stopped the rot by taking the next three.

Another tough fixture was Swad SC B v Belmont B. The first 3 games ended in draws and the match was decided as last week’s hero, Pete Birkin, dropped two to Chris Dewey.

Drakelow A suffered their first defeat at the hands of Swad SC D. Simon Orpwood found some form with a 35 break but could still only halve the game with Brian Bloor. On the night Drakelow’s anchor man, Alan Orpwood couldn’t deliver and Andrew Bloor produced the goods for a Swad win.

The mid-table match between John Carr A and Ivanhoe C ended all square. It could have gone to the home team when Dave Plunkett put them 4 frames to the good but Ian Shrive could not secure the final frame against Ivanhoe’s Warner Collins.

In Furniture King Division 2 Ivanhoe D have given themselves a 2pt lead by demolishing John Carr B. Just the improving Dan Pearsall took the Burton teams frame.

The Swad SC derby between the G & F teams was never going to be an easy match due to both teams needing a win to stay in touch with Ivanhoe. Mark Hadley began the G teams effort by taking two off Ben Davies but that’s where it ended. Richie Hinks and Pete Maguire Jnr secured their frames and Adam Harrison shared the final game for an F team win.

Measham WMC A moved up the table by beating Swad SC E. Skipper Paul Eaton was the only player to take both in an otherwise drawn match.

Burton Cons D & Newhall C had to settle for a draw when Callum Finnegan and David Wain played out the final game at one-a-piece.

No changes at the top of David Wain Insurance Division 3. John Carr D & Stapenhill D have been matching each other ball for ball. This week they both benefited from a 6-2 win as Woodville S&S A and Stapenhill C did not have the capacity to reply.

Belmont C had a slim victory over John Carr C as John Smout could not prevent Jim Parkes from taking the final frame decider.
