2012-13: Week 6

In the Just Wood Premier Division, Ivanhoe C had a good home win against Tutbury A 6-2. George Cawkwell got Ivanhoe off to the ideal start, winning both frames fairly comfortably against Paul Atterbury. Jerry Cook deservedly shared the frames with the experienced Alan Davies, to put the Ivanhoe boys 3-1 ahead at the turn. This form continued in the second half, with Graham Measures in good form, sharing the spoils with Daz Lester. Steve Cockeram, playing his first match of the season, was too strong for Colin Bell in both frames.
 
Belmont B continued their good run of form with a 5-3 home win against Riley’s A. Belmont’s star man was Micheal Lomas who showed his quality against Steve Brimley, making easy work of him. Brett Craddock played steady snooker against Ady Harper, coming back from 28 behind in the first frame. His form continued in the second frame, where he got some very good long pots. Arron Vaughan lost his first frame to Micky Tonks, who cleared from green to black to snatch the by doubling the black. The second frame was also a scrappy affair, Arron potted green to blue, but rattled the jaws with the pink, leaving it for Micky to pot, and also take the second frame. Miffa Smith drew with Mark Stirling for a Belmont victory.
 
Burton Cons A put their shock result from the previous week behind them by thrashing Ivanhoe B 8-0. Owen Jones was back to form, taking both frames off Jack Bale. Mick Simpkins, with the help of a 39 break, made light work of his opponent, Tim Bale. Mat Milnes and Jason Pickering had two very quick frames, which included some good potting by both players, and ended with Mat winning both frames. Stuart Roberts was also in good form in beating Brendon Mattley, which included a 31 break.
 
SDSC A and Belmont A apparently shared eight excellent frames of snooker, which included some good pots and safety play. Andy Goldingay and Josh Gebbie shared their frames, with Andy making a very good 39 break. Steve Ayre put SDSC in front by winning both frames off Rich Goldby. Sturmy Archer then levelled the scores by beating John Davis fairly comfortably. Chris Dewey and Shaun Gebbie shared the spoils, so everybody went home happy.
 
Ivanhoe A had a shock home defeat to Newhall A losing 6-2. It would appear that Newhall are starting to turn their season around at long last. Andy Marriott and Adam McInulty had two cracking frames. Andy knocked in a very good 46 break with some very long pots in the frame he won, Adam replied with a 38 break. Mark Satchwell, who was in fine form, took both frames off Ian Rennocks. Newhall’s captain Fran McInulty lead by example, taking two easy frames from Alan Davies aided by a 36 break. Ivanhoe’s Mick Kirk drew with Mark Press in two good frames of snooker, Mick made a 47 break to take his frame.
 
Willington B beat SDSC B 5-3, Swad unfortunately only turned up with three players, that missing fourth player could have made all the difference to the result! John Hardy got Willington off to a fine start by beating Brian Bloor in a close match. SDSC’s top player Simon Orpwood, as is becoming the norm, won both frames and also making a 32 break in the process, in beating Tony Clements. Steve Gaunt, with the help of a 30 break, drew with Garton Bloor.
 
Tutbury B, who have been in good form recently and are third in the league, were on the receiving end of a good thrashing by Willington A, who won 7-1. Dave Powell lost both frames fairly easily to Wayne Pererira. Steve Mabbott prevented the whitewash when drawing with Jan Pawlalzyk in a couple of quality frames. Dave Mabbott then lost to Don Johnson, and Steve Mabbott losing to Gaz Barker in two quickfire frames.
 
In the David Wain Insurance Division 1, Swad Cons A and SDSC D drew in a highly competitive match. Chris Brown and Ryan Gilmore drew in two fairly scrappy frames. For the Cons, Andy Grainger was in cracking form against the unlucky Danny Collins. Andy made breaks of 31 and 33 respectively. Lee Wood did well to draw with Lee Sherratt, who has been playing good snooker of late. Andy Rice took both frames off Paul Slater to earn the draw for SDSC, which was well deserved.
Burton Cons C managed to scrape home against an under strength Woodville S&S A team 5-3. For the Cons, Mick Buckland was in a very good potting mood against Bob Stanovitch, winning both frames. On the other table, it was a very dour game between Paul Davies and Tony Coleman. Tony took the first frame by taking the last three colours to win on the black. The second frame, he won on the pink. Bob Brooks was so unlucky against Ian Shrive, losing both games on the black, but was unlucky in both frames, with the position of the black. Steve Castledine and Pat Ryan had two contrasting frames, with one of the players being more dominant than the other in both frames. They shared the spoils.
 
SDSC C did the dreaded whitewash over Rolleston A, winning 8-0. Young Harry Farrall played tremendous snooker against Bob Tubey, he was potting balls from all angles and was a joy to watch. Harry also made a well constructed 35 break. Adam Harrison’s good form continued, as he beat Kevin Norris with good potting and safety. Henry Tomas was in cracking form, making easy work of Kieran Wade in both frames. SDSC skipper Peter Maquire played well, getting some good pots and knocking in a 31 break against Bob Sanders.
 
It would appear that Newhall B are finally getting their team together, as they beat the Alrewas Raptors 5-3 in a rearranged match. For the Raptors, Dave Trueman got them off to a good start, by taking both frames off the unfortunate Mark Anslow. The reliable Carl Glover got things moving for Newhall, by drawing with Adam Walton. Adam made a 25 break to win his frame. Martin Hicks got a move-on against Carl Poulton, taking both frames pretty quickly, with some excellent potting, which included a cracking 38 break. Callum Gray then finished the match off by beating Ian Hiley, which included a 28 break. According to the match card, everyone was full of praise for the food provided by Newhall.
 
Stapenhill A had a good win at home to Burton Cons B, winning 5-3. Chris Sheldrake took two very tight frames off Jason Anguish, to give Stapenhill a good start. For the Cons, Simon Smith, never one to hang around, beat Carlos Jeffcoate with some excellent potting, and levelled the score. Tim Knopik played well to draw with Dave Plunkett. Tim’s safety play was very good. Steve Ford got the two frames they needed for victory against Tom Egginton, in a scrappy match.
 
Newhall B got their second victory of the week, at the expense of Stapenhill B winning 6-2. Joe McInulty got them off to a fine start by taking both frames against Gordon Jennings, who was a little snooker rusty as this was his first game of the season. Carl Glover and Colin Britton shared two dour frames. Callum Gray, who is having a fine season so far, managed to beat Stan Piechowiz, but the frames were close. Mark Anslow and Greg Britton drew in a couple of entertaining frames.
 
Alrewas B tasted defeat for only the second time this season at the hands of dark horses Willington C, who won 5-3 away. Will Sherratt and Dave Budworth had two good frames of snooker with honours shared. Dave knocked in a 31 break to win his frame. Phil Marklew managed to draw with Trevor Heath, who played some excellent safety play. Phil produced a well constructed frame, winning break of 40. Brian Alford was Willington’s player of the night, taking two close frames off John Sharpe, to earn his side victory. Alan Wilson and Bill Davidson shared the frames in what turned out to be a very safety conscious match.
 
Riley’s B lost at home to Alrewas A 6-2. Ryan Gibbs and David Trueman drew in two long drawn out frames. Zaheer was rather unfortunate not to take both frames against Carl Poulton. Ian Hiley got the Raptors going, by beating Gary Mayne with some quality snooker. The Raptors Colin Kinsella wrapped up a good evening by taking both frames fairly comfortably against Adam Farrington.
 
In the Rileys Division 2, Alrewas C had an excellent home win, beating Woodville S&S B 7-1. Ben Woodward, for Woodville, got their only frame, drawing with Adam How. Colin Wood, who has been playing well this season, won two close frames with Alan Shuttleworth. As usual, Karl Hancox took both frames off the unlucky Richard Thornewell. Where is Eric? Just to wrap things up, Nigel Edwards beat Terry Eyley, but it was a struggle.
 
Rolleston B had a close match against SDSC E, winning 5-3 on the final frame. For Rolleston, Dave Bentley made a 25 break in drawing with Ray Stretton. Neil Cheadle drew with Ray Bancroft. Rolleston always looks a stronger team when Neil is in it. Steve Atkin had two close frames which was shared with Tony Mitchell. Captain John Ward was Rolleston’s star turn, beating Phil Maddocks to give them a hard earned victory.
 
Apparently drinks are on the Chairman at Swad Cons after the B team won their first match of the season against SDSC F, winning 5-3. Pete Fearn got them off to a good start in beating Henry Carlton in some style. Alex Read then got the scores level, beating John Griffin. Len Marriott eased the Cons ahead by beating Nathan Miller. Alex Glover drew with Jon Petcher for a Cons victory. Cheers, Mr Chairman, let us hope it is the start of many more!
 
Willington D had an enjoyable match, winning against Alrewas D 6-2. Steve Butterworth drew with Tony Trueman, and Daz Harris also drew with Brian Eccleston. It was Willington’s last two players who earned them victory. The extremely talented Loz Kennerson won both frames against Tom Smith, which included breaks of 39 and 31 respectively. Lee Cooke played well in taking both frames off Brian Aldridge.
 
Swad Cons D got back to winning ways, beating close neighbours Belmont C 5-3. Tutbury C lost at home to Swad Cons C 6-2.
