In the Premier Division Rileys A hosted Alrewas B with decisive results in all 4 games which led to a 4-4 draw. Tom Elliot won both frames against Adam Walton but Walton may feel hard done by. Elliot claimed the first on the final colours and the second on the final black after a great clearance and fine comeback. Ade Harper and Carl Poulton played two very safety conscious frames after blue, pink and black went difficult. Harper should have taken the first after setting up a relatively easy final pink but he left the door open and Poulton took the frame. The second started close but Poulton pulled away on the final few reds to take it. Mark Stirling kept his good form going and sent Hiley to his first defeat of the season. The first taken relatively comfortably but the second was taken on the final black by Stirling after a superb clearance. Colin Kinsella overcame Ade Speirs in both frames after cagey openings to each. In the first Kinsella took the frame on the colours but the second was much easier after a fine 41 from the Edingale hitman.
Belmont B welcomed Burton Cons A and it was the visitors that left with the victory. Zaheer Hussain played Mick Buckland and the Cons player potting well, including a 36 break, took both frames. On the other table, Arron Vaughan played an in-form Darren Coady, who knocked in a 44 in taking both frames. The second half began with Shaun Gebbie playing Owen Jones. Gebbie potted well and caught Jones on an off night to take the first frame. The second was also close but Jones managed to pinch it on the black. The final match saw Miffa Smith draw with Stuart Roberts to leave the final score at 6-2 to the reigning champions.
Ivanhoe B picked up another win at home to three-man Swadlincote Snooker Centre B. Ivan Birkin got back to winning ways as he defeated Pete Maguire. Jay Pickering drew with Mark Satchwell and Ben Davies then won both frames against John Skellett to level the scores. Bren Mattley then claimed the frames to clinch the victory.
Willington A won 5-3 at home to Stapenhill A as two of the early season strugglers locked horns. Bill Stewart won both frames against Chris Sheldrake and then Jan Pawlazych played very well, including a 60 break, to defeat Jason Spibey. Andy Gretton then fought well to grab a frame from Daz Lester and Steve Ford knocked in a 22 in taking the frames from Alan Davies.
Swadlincote Snooker Centre A drew with Belmont A. Chris Dewey played very well in defeating Wayne Brewin and Andy Goldingay followed suit by beating Josh Gebbie. Back came the visitors as Mark Press won both against John Davis and Ian Archer took the frames against Steve Ayre to complete the match.
Tutbury A showed that they are a tough nut to crack as they drew with title hopefuls Ivanhoe A. Andy Marriott continued his fine form as he took both frames from Steve Mabbott. Dave Mabbott responded as he won both frames against Daniel Blunn. Chris Mabbott then played out a draw with Ian Rennocks, who knocked in a 31 in taking his frame. Steve Hathaway then played well in sharing the frames with Ant Moore to close out the match.

The division’s leaders Burton Cons B lost for only the second time this season to Newhall A who appear to be going through a rather consistent spell at the moment as they won 5-3.  Tom Eggington who is battling his way back to fitness after his operation won his first frame against Lee Sherratt although l was informed he had a little bit of good running.  In the second frame it was a different scenario with Lee in the groove potting wise to share the honours.  Two very good frames between Dave Plunkett and Sam Hicks with both players in good form.  Dave just about shaded the first frame only for Sam to take the second on the black.  For Newhall Martin Hicks was again in terrific form against Jason Anguish as he won both frames fairly easily with some aggressive potting.  Steady Eddie Carl Glover again got the vital frame for the Newhall victory as he shared the frames with Dave Shipton.  Dave was on form in the first frame but Carl won the second on the black.
Willington D did well to hold Swad Cons A at fortress  Swad to a well deserved draw.  Up first for the Cons was Andy Grainger who was as clinical as ever when he won the first frame against Dave Budworth.  In the second frame Andy did not have it all his own way as Dave came back at him with some nice pots and safety play to pinch the frame.  This was a rare occasion for Andy this season.  Lee Wood continued his good form as he beat Steve Williams a match he dominated from start to finish.  Lewis Elson who was making his league debut for the Cons was very unlucky to drop both frames to Adi Millington who played steady snooker all through the games.  Paul Slater and Bill Davidson shared two scrappy frames with neither player being able to stamp there authority on it.

SDSC D got back to winning ways with a good win against Woodville S&S A 6-2.  This was Woodville’s second consecutive defeat.  SDSC got off to a great start thanks first to skipper Brian Bloor who beat an out of sorts Alan Orpwood.  Brian played some excellent snooker especially in the first frame not giving Alan much of an opportunity to shine. The second frame appeared to be going the same way then Alan who was 28 points behind started to claw his way back into the frame with one or two nice pots and a few good snookers.  He was back in the frame only to lose on the black.  John Chambers won both frames against Pat Ryan who took a little while to get going in the first frame but in the second it was nip and tuck right down to the pink.  This put SDSC 4-0 ahead at the turn.  Jim Marcer for Woodville took the first frame against David Wain fairly comfortably but in the second frame David came back well with some good safety play and potted a cracking long blue to secure the win for SDSC.  Garton Bloor and Tony Coleman shared two quality frames of snooker with Tony winning the first fairly comfortably but the second could have gone either way with Garton potting the pink for the draw.
Alrewas C have moved up the league table significantly after they beat Willington B 7-1.  They were also helped by playing at home for only the second time this season.  John Richardson got back to winning ways with a fine display of snooker in beating Trevor Heath.  John made a break of 25 to win one of his frames.  Andy Jenkins got Willington’s only frame of the night as he drew with Karl Hancox with both players playing some good snooker.  Rob McMeecham played some of his best snooker for a while as he comfortably beat Dave Mawhinney.  Tommy Wright’s performance in beating Steve Gaunt was probably the best display of the evening for quality potting.
SDSC E are certainly enjoying themselves this season as they put in another fine performance as they beat a struggling Rolleston A 6-2.  Nick Harcombe got the snooker club off to a fine start as he beat Richard O’Dell in two tight frames.  Tony Mitchell then continued the good start as he drew with Joe Docksey in two scrappy frames.  Andy Jefferies sealed the win for SDSC as he beat James Wilkinson with both players getting some good pots but with Andy always having the upper hand.  Ray Bancroft kept up his early season momentum with another gritty performance to draw with Tony Rushton.
Willington C got back to winning ways as they thrashed Ivanhoe C 7-1.  This moves them up the table to third.  Loz Kennerson set the tone for the night as he beat Gaz Dolman which is no mean achievement as Gaz does not lose many matches in a season.  In  winning one of his frames he knocked in the highest break of the division this week of 38. Lee Cooke continued the good work with a solid performance as he drew with Steve Cockeram.  Steve Butterworth playing some steady snooker as he beat Graham Measures with something to spare.  Steve Lane put the icing on the cake as he beat Jerry Cook in an entertaining match with both players making valuable contributions to the match.
The race for third place at the moment is extremely close with five teams just separated by two points.

Ivanhoe D this week took on the girls of Riley’s B, this match was played at Riley’s because of Ashby Ivanhoe’s own club rules of not allowing ladies to play on their tables meaning Ashby D have one less home match to play than the other teams in this division, they ended up in a close hard fought match. Keith Bale drew with Marie Bridges, Jason Collins had two good frames with Yvonne Spendlove which also ended in a draw.  Warner Collins played well and also drew against Kate Stirling the difference was Tony Tredger who took two off Claire Roulstone for a narrow 5-3 win.
Rolleston C moved up to 3rd in the league with an emphatic win against Swad Cons B who are a side with players capable of promotion.  Lionel Lewis Rob Sanders and Kev Norris won all their frames with only Vince Draper taking a frame off Ade Owen who knocked in a 24 break for the 7-1 win.
Stapenhill B hosted Belmont C, Stan Piechowicz went on first against Belmont’s Terry Bosworth losing both while on the other table John Sherriff evened things up by taking two frames off Brian Cutting Stapenhill’s Andy Tomlinson did well to take two off Doug Lees despite the Belmont man making a 30 break, it was the frame Dave Press dropped that gave the home team the 5-3 win.
Belmont D played a team higher in the league in the shape of Tutbury B, Belmont’s Mick Morris rapidly got into his stride, and this week it was John Peto to suffer as Mick took both frames in double quick time with breaks of 28 and the divisions highest break so far 41, while on the other table Mark Vaughan and Paul Atterbury played out a tiresome slow draw. Jeff Siddalls put up a good show winning the first against Belmont’s promising Ross Hollis who then came back to take the second.  Last up for the home team was Brett Craddock who has also been playing well but went behind to Colin Bell by twenty points, Bell must have fancied his chances but it was short lived as Brett pulled back to win the frame comfortably, the second frame was all Bell again until they were down to the colours Bell had a 25 point lead and had to watch as Craddock clawed back to take the game to a respot black which he  got for a convincing 6-2 win to send Belmont D into the promotion places.
Burton Cons D against Swad Cons C looked to be a close game on paper, Swad’s Dan Petcher and Ricky Higgs won all four frames against Nathan Brooks and Simon Malpass, the winning frame was taken by Jon Petcher in his draw with Al Munnien, for Burton Ian Protheroe took two off Reg Shorthouse to give the Swad side a 5-3 victory.
Swad Cons D surprisingly lost at home to Alrewas D Tom Smith taking 2 for Alrewas from Kieran Davey and all other players drawing for a 5-3 win.
Woodville B got a win as predicted last week they are an improving side it was started by Mark Gallagher winning against John Ward and Jack Gallagher drawing with Neil Cheadle, Bill Hunt then took two off Dave Bentley to take the match with Rolleston’s Steve Atkin taking two off Jim Gardner for a 5-3 Woodville win.
