All 42 teams that started the league season were entered into the first round draw for the Orme Shield that was won last season by Belmont A. The format was changed to allow all players 2 frames but now potentially against different opponents as there were two draws. Three matches went to the dreaded doubles play offs, with a shock occurring at Ashby where the Ivanhoe C team put Alrewas A out from the Premier Division. Also scraping through were Alrewas B who beat Tutbury B 5-4 and also Premier side Swad Cons A who needed extra time to defeat Newhall A from Division One.
Holders Belmont A moved through comfortably defeating Burton Cons C 6-2 whilst the Premier league leaders Ivanhoe A had no problems dispatching Belmont C 8-0 away. Burton Cons A, another one of the favourites, struggled somewhat but in the end came through against a tough Spot On A side by a 5-3 scoreline.
Rolleston C were impressive as they rolled over Swad Cons C by a whitewash. Woodville A went through as they drew the withdrawn Alrewas D whilst the clubs B team scored a good 5-3 win over high flying Alrewas C from Div 2. SDSC B showed their class as they beat Rolleston D 7-1 whilst Rolleston B despatched the Snookerettes of Spot On D 8-0. Tutbury A won 6-2 against Belmont D in an all Premier clash.
Burton Cons B were just about good enough to get past Div One’s Stapenhill A by 5-3 whilst the Cons’ D team were undone by Swad Cons D in an all Div Two tie. Swad Snooker Centre’s D team got past Ivanhoe D . Ivanhoe B were grateful to get back to winning ways after struggling in the Premier this season with a 6-2 win over Belmont D. Swad Cons B had a good 6-2 win away at SDSC C in an all Div One match and Rolleston A showed their Premier class by rolling over Stapenhill B who have been struggling in Div One. SDSC A did not show for their match with Tutbury C and will be in the plate as a result. Finally Woodville C had a nice 5-3 win over Spot On B from the Premier and will be a side the Premier teams will want to avoid in the next round.
