2016-17: Week 17

David Wain Insurance Premier League by Owen Jones

PJM Fascias Division 1 by Mick Buckland

Tutbury B made it 11 straight league wins with a 6-2 away triumph over Alrewas B which has put a major dent in the hosts’ own promotion prospects. Wayne Pereira continued his own great form including a run of 36 against Carl Poulton. Daz Lester brushed aside Adam Walton whilst the games between Bill Stewart and Ian Hiley and then Dean Johnson and Dave Trueman were halved. Dave had a nice 31 along the way. Alrewas has not won in the league since the 8th December.

Stapenhill A took advantage of the Alrewas slip up to move in to the third promotion spot with a 6-2 win over Woodville S & S A. Carl Jeffcoate and Steve Ford were winners on the night over Pat Ryan and Jim Marcer. Jason Spiby drew with Alan Orpwood as did Andy Tomlinson with Tony Coleman. Stapenhill has lost only once in 8 – that being to the league leaders, Tutbury whilst Woodville hasn’t won in the league since week two.

SDSC B is looking good for a jump to the Premier Division next season as they beat Newhall A 6-2. Ben Davies and Carl Glover shared two very good frames. Adam Harrison was too strong for Sam Hicks on the night. Henry Tomas combined some great safety with solid potting to come out on top against Mark Anslow. Whilst an error from Martin Hurdman against Pete Maguire by putting Pete back in after a foul, allowed Pete a chance at a long pink which he duly potted and came round to be perfect on the black off 3 cushions to grab a draw in another good encounter. This is now only one defeat in 14 for the Snooker Centre boys whilst Newhall has not won in six having gone on a good mid season run.

Swad Cons B produced perhaps the result of the week with a thumping 7-1 home win over Rolleston B. Paul Hollis and Bob McNulty put the Cons’ boys 4-0 up at the break with a ruthless display of potting. Nick Walker continued his fine form with a win over John Harvey with both players knocking in 20 plus breaks. Lionel Lewis spared the Rollers’ blushes by grabbing a frame off of Vince Draper. This result leaves Swad Cons in sixth and pretty much assured Division One snooker next season whilst Rolleston is now 14 points from safety having not won in the league since before Xmas.

Having lost 4 on the bounce Ivanhoe C has now made it 9 without defeat after a 5-3 away win at Rolleston C. Gaz Dolman and George Cawkwell were in fine form for the Ashby boys as they beat out of sorts Mick Taylor and Wayne Smith. Billy Ashton scored a fine win over Darren Wilson whilst Tom Lucas and Graham Measures fought out a draw.

Burton Cons C reversed a recent run of poor form with a 5-3 win away at Stapenhill B. It was all square at halfway as Greg Britton beat Tom Egginton but Steve Castledine took two off of John Sherriff. In the second half Bryan Sherratt and Lee Louch had a hard fought draw before the Cons’ captain Ian Shrive secure the extra winning point by beating Tim Knopik.

The Swad Snooker Centre derby between the clubs’ C and D teams went the way of the D and continued their run of four unbeaten in the league. Nick Harcombe kept up his impressive record this season as he scored two for the C in his win over David Wain. Dave Tewkesbury took one more for the C in his draw with Garton Bloor. That was as good as it got though as wins for Brian Bloor over ┬áRay Bancroft and Ryan Gilmore over Matt Tewkesbury saw the D team home. Both sides are 8 points above the relegation zone but will need some more wins between now and the end of the season to be sure of remaining in the division
