David Wain Insurance Premier League by Owen Jones

Belmont A won 6-2 at home against Spot On A. Adam McInulty was first up against Ady Harper. Both players potted well and won a frame each, Harper making a 35 break in the frame he won. Arron Vaughan won the first frame on a tense black ball game against Nigel Tomlinson. The second frame was more straightforward for Vaughan. Ian Archer put in a usual good performance to beat Tom Elliott. Finally, Graham Bailey and Andy Spiers shared two entertaining frames to complete the scoring.

Burton Cons B won 6-2 against Belmont B. Dave Plunkett won both frames against Mick Morris. Mark Vaughan responded for the visitors by putting in a great performance against Simon Smith. Jon Swift put the hosts back in front at the expense of Ian Gibson. Mike Buckland made a 31 as he beat Brett Craddock.

Ivanhoe A won 5-3 against Alrewas A. The star of the night was Andy Marriott as he made 100 in his victory over John Richardson. Ian Rennocks drew with Colin Wood. Daniel Blunn also drew with Karl Hancox, but the outcome would have been a victory if Blunn had not gone in off on the final black. Ant Moore secured the victory for the hosts as he beat Tom Smith.

Swadlincote Snooker Centre A won 5-3 away at Rolleston A. Mark Press got the hosts of to a good start as he beat Chris Dewey. Bobby Cliff and John Davis played out an entertaining draw. Matt Keay took both frames from Rich O’Dell and Andy Goldingay proved to be too strong for Joe Docksey on the night to complete the scoring.

Spot On C and Swad Cons A drew their match. Conrad Thomas and Paul Slater won a frame each. Trevor Heath and Mark Hadley also drew their game. Tony Clements defeated Simon Mansfield and Andy Grainger rescued the draw as he beat Steve Gaunt.

Spot On B also drew their match with Ivanhoe B. Lee Cooke and Steve Butterworth drew with Stuart Tagg and Bren Mattley respectively. Loz Kennerson made a 38 break as he defeated Adam Pickering and Jason Pickering won the frames against Steve Lane to level the match.

Champions Burton Cons A won 6-2 away at Tutbury A. Steve Mabbott played Owen Jones first. Mabbott built up a lead but Jones cleared the colours up to the final black but ran out of position. He tried a cut back into the corner pocket , it rattled and left the frame at Mabbott’s mercy. Jones took the second frame. John Shilton won both frames against Daniel Mabbott, aided by a 37 break. Graham Stevens made an 87 break, which could have been exactly 100 but for a positional shot on the final pink that left a tough shot. Unfortunately it was missed. Stevens also won the other frame. Finally, Darren Coady and Dave Mabbot played out a draw, with Coady making a 37 break.

PJM Fascias Division 1 by Mick Buckland

The big match in Division One, pitted the top two against each other. Perhaps it was predictable that the two teams could not be separated so SDSC B missed the chance to close the 10 point gap at the top between themselves and Tutbury B. Bill Stewart won for Tutbury against the Snooker Centre’s captain Pete Maguire whilst Adam Harrison returned the compliment for the home team inflicting a rare defeat on Wayne Pereira. Ben Davies knocked in a 30 in his draw with Daz Lester whilst Henry Tomas also drew against Jan Pawlazcyk. 4-4 seemed right on the night and leaves both teams set fair for a promotion to the Premier Division.

Stapenhill A made a strong statement that they are after the third spot with a thumping 7-1 win away at Swad Cons B. Dave Shenton was in fine form as he rolled in a 35 in his win over Paul Hollis. There were also wins for Carl Jeffcoate and Steve Ford whilst Nick Walker spared the home team’s blushes by grabbing a frame off of Andy Tomlinson. After 4 straight wins they are now 3 points above Alrewas B in fourth.
Alrewas B for their part kept the pressure on Stapenhill by beating SDSC D 5-3. In a tight match, Carl Poulton made the difference by defeating David Wain. The other 3 matches were all halved as James Edwards, Ian Hiley and Adam Walton drew against the three Bloors, Brian, Andrew and Garton. Andrew Bloor providing the highlight with a nice 30. This keeps Alrewas 10 points clear of their closet chasers whilst they are 3 points behind the promotion places.
Newhall A returned to winning ways having lost their previous three. They beat Burton Cons C 6-2 with Mark Anslow potting really well to beat the Cons’ captain Ian Shrive. Martin Hurdman was in fine form to beat Paul Davies first frame but Paul recovered to knock a 25 in to halve the match with the second. Lee Louch potted brilliantly to take the first off Carl Glover who came back strongly to pinch the second after some good knocks on the colours. Tom Egginton made it awkward in his match against Martin Hicks but Martin won through in the end capping a good week fo.r him personally as he added this to his win in The Jack Dyche trophy against Bill Stewart from Tutbury
First frame was tight with Hicks taking control on the colours leaving Stewart needing tw o snookers on the pink. Stewart got two great snookers and had a chance to win, but then missed a long pink and went in off gifting the frame to Hicks. In the second frame Steward was 18 in front and had a chance to forge ahead but again found himself going in off a red, Hicks then came back with an 18 and 20 break to lead 2-0. Stewart was not put off by this and potted well to take the the next to go 2-1. In the fourth frame Hicks took command and went 22 ahead with the colours left but missed the yellow leaving it over the middle pocket. Steward potted the yellow but misjudged the position only to go in off again handing the frame to Hicks who duly finished off potting well.

Rolleston C kept up their late push for promotion as they beat their local rivals the B team by six frames to two . Tom Lucas provided the highlight of the Division One season so far by going to the top of the high breaks table with a fantastic 77 in his match against Kev Norris. John Brentnall was the other winner on the  night for the C team as he beat Rob Sanders. The games between Wayne Smith and Rob Tubey and then Billy Ashton and Lionel Lewis ended in draws.

Ivanhoe C have now made it 12 games unbeaten in all competitions and last week they won 5-3 against Stapenhill B. Darren Wilson was the star man as he knocked a good 35 in during his victory versus Simon Piechovicz. Jerry Cook also scored two over Greg Britton. John Sherriff and Graham Measures halved whilst Bryan Sharratt had a good win over Gaz Dolman. Stapenhill are now 6 points from safety.

Nick Harcombe and Ray Bancroft both scored wins over Woodville A  for their team SDSC C. Ray Stretton and Matt Tewkesbury scored a frame each as they drew with Jim Marcer and Bob Brooks. This leaves the Swad side 9 points above the drop zone whilst Woodville are running out of time to avoid the drop.
