David Wain Insurance Premier League by Owen Jones

Ivanhoe A completed the double over champions Burton Cons A and have cut their lead to just two points. Andy Marriott was on good form as he beat Matt Milnes with breaks of 46, 43 and 30. Ian Rennocks cleared the final three colours to take the first frame against Owen Jones. His opponent came back strongly to take the second. Ant Moore made a 33 break and played well to beat an out of sorts Graham Stevens. Finally, Daniel Blunn potted well in the first frame to take it against Stuart Roberts. The Burton Cons man battled well to take the second frame, which left the final score at 6-2 to the hosts.

Belmont B drew with Ivanhoe B. Mick Morris and Jason Pickering shared their frames in an entertaining game. Zaheer Hussain cleared the colours to take the first frame against Bren Mattley but got himself into a spot of bother when put in a snooker by his opponent in the second frame. Too many attempts to escape resulted in too many points to catch up. Brett Craddock won the first frame against Stu Tagg with some good potting. The Ashby man came back well in the second to take it. Mark Vaughan won the first frame on the green against Adam Pickering. Adam went ahead in the second only for Vaughan to come back at him and the points difference was down to one with only the pink and black left. Pickering potted both to earn the visitors a share of the spoils.

Burton Cons B won 6-2 at home against Alrewas A. Ryan Gibbs and Rob McMeecham won a frame each with some good potting. Dave Plunkett and Tom Smith could not be separated either. Mike Buckland knocked in a 33 break as he beat Colin Wood. Finally, Jon Swift played very well to beat Karl Hancox, aided by a 38 break.

Rolleston A drew with Spot On A. Mark Press drew with Ade Harper, as did Bobby Cliff and Mark Stirling. Tony Rushton got the two frames for the hosts as he beat Tom Elliott. Andy Speirs earned the draw as he beat Rich O’Dell.

Spot On B welcomed Swad Cons A and it was the visitors who left with the win. Steve Butterworth and Mark Hadley both potted well to earn a frame each. Lee Cooke and Lee Wood also won a frame each. Loz Kennerson and Paul Slater could not be separated, so any winner in the last match between Steve Lane and Andy Grainger would earn the victory for their side. It was Grainger who took both frames, aided by a 38 break to close out a 5-3 victory.

Spot On C won 5-3 at home against Swadlincote Snooker Centre A. Trevor Heath, Andy Jenkins and John Hardy drew with Steve Ayre, Andy Goldingay and Matt Keay respectively. Tony Clements picked up the all important win as he beat John Davis.

Tutbury A won 6-2 at home against Belmont A. Steve Hathaway beat Arron Vaughan with some nice potting. Steve Mabbott and Josh Gebbie battled out a draw on the other table. Chris Mabbott made breaks of 34 and 44 as he beat Graham Bailey and finally, Ian Archer made a 60 break as he drew with Dave Mabbott.

PJM Fascias Division 1 by Mick Buckland

Leaders of the PJM Fascias Division One, Tutbury B, failed to win for the fourth week running. Last week they were undone by a Newhall A side whose win has rekindled their outside chance for promotion themselves. The first three matches were all drawn-Mark Anslow and Daz Lester, Martin Hicks and Alan Davies and then Martin Hurdman with Bill Stewart. The winner on the night for  Newhall was John Finch who dispatched Dean Johnson.

Moving to within 5 points of Tutbury are SDSC B who thumped SDSC D 7-1. Adam Harrison, Simon Shilton and Henry Tomas all scored twice whilst Andy Rice was the only saviour for the club’s D team as he took a draw against Ben Davies. This is now 4 games without a win for SDSC D who are now only 4 points from the drop-zone, whilst it’s now 7 unbeaten in the league for The B team.

The race for the 3rd promotion spot is hotting up as well as Stapenhill A were surprisingly beaten 6-2 at Rolleston C. Jon Sully scored a good win against the Institute’s talisman, Steve Ford, despite Steve rolling in a nice 25. Wayne Smith was also in good form as he included a couple of 20 plus breaks in his win over  Carl Jeffcoate. Tom Lucas had earlier drawn with Jason Spibey, whilst the match between Mick Taylor and Andy Gretton was also halved. Rolleston would have to come from another county to get promotion but they have the ability to do it….Stapenhill are now just 3 points clear of Alrewas B in third spot, who are breathing down their necks.

Alrewas B made it 3 wins from 4 with a 6-2 win over basement side, Woodville A. Carl Poulton and Dave Trueman were the stars as they beat Alan Orpwood and Jim Marcer. The matches between Adam Walton and Tony Coleman and then James Edwards and Pat Ryan were both drawn leaving Woodville with seven straight defeats and a mountain to climb to avoid relegation. Alrewas are now just 3 points from a promotion position.

The highlight in the division last week was the excellent knock of 81 rolled in by Burton Cons C’s Lee Louch to put him in line for the division’s high break prize. It only scored him one frame though in his match against Gaz Dolman of Ivanhoe C. This now makes it 5 draws on the trot for Lee. Other draws were played out between George Cawkwell and Tom Egginton and also Jerry Cook and Ian Shrive. The man making the difference on the night was Graham Measures who beat Daz Stockman. Both sides look set fair for another season in Division One next year.

A battle between two of the sides in the dropzone took place at Stapenhill Institute. The club’s B team lost 5-3 to Rolleston B which really did neither side’s chances of staying up a lot of good. Man of the match was  Bryan Sharratt who knocked in a 25 in beating Rolleston’s John Harvey. He was destined to end on the losing side though as Rolleston’s  Lionel Lewis and Kev Norris turned on the style in beating John Sherriff and Tim Knopik. The match between  Greg Britton and Rob Sanders was halved.

SDSC C made it three wins on the bounce as they beat Swad Cons B 5-3 away. Nick Harcombe kept up the pressure at the top of the averages table as he included a 29 on the way to a 2-0 win over Nick Walker. Paul Hollis drew with Ray Bancroft in the first half before Ray Stretton beat Sam Warren to secure the win for the Snooker Centre with The Cons’ Jake Mole defeating Matt Tewkesbury.  Both sides look like they have done enough to retain their divisional status.

Newton Fallowell Division 2 by Mike Buckland

Woodville S & S C tightened their grip on the Division Two title with a thumping 7-1 win against promotion hopefuls Swad Cons D. Only Bob Birch offered any resistance for the Swad side as he drew with John Chambers as elsewhere there were wins from the consistent Wayne Brewin, Mark Satchwell and S Wood on debut. Woodville are very close to the point where promotion would be secure whilst this defeat leaves The Cons 11 points from a promotion position.

Tutbury C made the most of Swad Cons defeat by scoring a 6-2 win over Rolleston D to be the side in that 3rd spot. John Peto was man of the match as he rolled in a lovely 25 in his defeat of Aaron Doyle. Jeff Diddalls was also in good form as he beat Steve Atkin. The matches between Colin Bell and Neil Cheadle and then Paul Atterbury and John Ward were both halved.Tutbury are 6 points behind second placed Alrewas C whilst Rolleston look like finishing 9th.

Alrewas C drew 4-4 away at Burton Cons D. There were two winners on the night….Al Munnien for The Cons, who defeated Roy Sherratt and John Sharpe for Alrewas who beat Paul Brooks. Ian Protherore halved with Will Sherratt whilst Jim Jennings drew with Gary Green. This ended a run of seven straigt league wins for Alrewas but they still look good for the jump to Division One whilst The Cons will finish mid table.

Swad Cons C were undone by an Ashby Ivanhoe D team that were on fire last Thursday. Warner Collins, Keith bale and Jack Bale all had comfortable wins over John Griffin, Pete Fearn and Jon Petcher. Dan Petcher saved the home team’s blushes by grabbing a draw off of Brian Lowrie. This was Ivanhoe’s first win in the league since they beat the runaway leader Woodville C before Christmas whilst The Cons look to be in a battle with Belmont D for the wooden spoon.
