PJM Fascias Division 1 by Mick Buckland
In the PJM Fascias Division One last week, the top seven sides beat the bottom seven. At the top, there were thumping wins for Tutbury B and SDSC B whilst the battle for third is really going to the wire between Alrewas B and Stapenhill A.
Wayne Pereira, Daz Lester and Jan Pawlazcyk were all in fine form as they brushed aside Ian Shrive, Daz Stillman and Tom Egginton from Burton Cons B, with Daz knocking in two 25s. Only Lee Louch spared any Cons’ blushes as he halved with Bill Stewart having a 27 along the way. This was Lee’s seventh straight draw. Tutbury require a win this week to ensure promotion back to the Premier whilst 5 straight defeats for the Cons means they still have work to do to ensure another season in the middle flight.
SDSC B sit nine points behind in second and are almost assured of promotion themselves. With captain Pete Maguire out of action until next season and Simon Shilton unavailable, they drafted in Richard Hinks who beat Alan Orpwood of Woodville A. There were also wins for Ben Davies and Henry Tomas over Pat Ryan and Bob Brooks. The match between Adam Harrison and Jim Marcer ended all square with Jim’s matchplay experience balancing Adam’s break-building as he rolled in a superb 56. Woodville are all but relegated after eight straight league defeats.
Alrewas B made it three wins on the bounce with a 6-2 triumph over Swad Cons B. Adam Walton, Carl Poulton and Ian Hiley were all double winners on the night whilst the only reply for The Cons was a 2-0 win for Nick Walker over Dave Trueman. They now sit just one point behind third placed Stapenhill A in the final promotion spot battle.Swad Cons sit comfortably in mid table and are fairly assured of Division One snooker again next season.
Stapenhill made it seven wins from eight in the league with a hard fought 5-3 win over the club’s B team. Once again Steve Ford made the difference as he beat Tim Knopik. All three other matches were drawn. John Sherriff and Andy Gretton, Greg Britton and Andy Tomlinson and finally Stan Piechowicz and Carl Jeffcoate. Stapenhill B are just out of the drop zone at the moment in a battle that will go to the wire.
In fifth, Newhall A made it five wins in a row and are making a late bid to snatch that 3rd spot. Last week, they defeated SDSC D 6-2 with wins from Martin Hicks and John Finch, whilst Martin Hurdman drew with Andrew Bloor and Carl Glover halved with Garton Bloor. This drops the Snooker Centre side into the bottom three by virtue of less wins than Stapenhill B.
Rolleston C would be another outside bet for promotion but might have left their run a little too late. They are unbeaten in six and last week beat SDSC C 6-2. Wayne Smith continued his good form with a 26 in his win over Matt Tewkesbury making it four wins on the trot for him. There were also wins for John Brentnall and Tom Lucas whilst Ray Stretton replied for the Swad side with a win over Mick Taylor. Eleven points might just be too many to make up in the last 3 matches to catch Stapenhill but they will be one of the favourites for promotion next season if they don’t. SDSC look to have done enough to extend their stay in Division One.
Ivanhoe C became the seventh side to rock over 100 points for the season as they beat Rolleston B 6-2. Jerry Cook and Darren Wilson did most of the damage as they beat Lionel Lewis and Rob Sanders. Gaz Dolman drew with John Harvey as did Graham Measure with Kev Norris. Ivanhoe look set for mid table whilst Rolleston are going to need a miracle to stay up especially as they play the league leaders this week.
Wayne Pereira still tops the averages and is in prime position for the end of season Ken Shipton Memorial tournament and will be joined by Nick Harcombe, Adam Harrison and Wayne Smith at current rate. Lee Louch is sill top of the high break table with his magnificent 81.
Newton Fallowell Division 2 by Mike Buckland
In the Newton Fallowell Division Two, Woodville C became the first side in all the league to be promoted as they thumped Belmont C 8-0. Fran McNulty knocked in a nice 38 as he beat Terry Bosworth. Wayne Brewin then beat this with a lovely 51 as he defeated Graeme Drayton. There were also wins for Mark Satchwell and John Chambers to complete the rout. Belmont C have won more than they have lost and will finish mid-table.
In second spot are Alrewas C who had no game last week they will make Woodville wait to win the title having lost only once themselves this season. The two sides play each other this week and anything other than an Alrewas win will hand
the title to Woodville.
In third are Tutbury C, who also had no game last week but they are now joined on 105 points by Swad Cons D. They had a fine 7-1 win over Rolleston D with Bob Birch knocking in a couple of 20 plus breaks as he beat John Ward. Mark Brookes and Andy Boam also scored wins whilst Dave Bodie and a half with Neil Cheadle.
Ivanhoe D made it 5 unbeaten in the league as they beat an off colour Burton Cons D side. Keith Bale, Jason Collins and Brian Lowrie were all on fine form to score wins whilst Jack Bale drew with the Cons’ captain Paul Brooks.
Woodville B beat Swad Cons C 6-2 with wins on the night for Mark Gallagher and Terry Eiley. The matches between Dennis Moore and Pete Fearn and then Wayne Allen and Errol Faulkner were halved.
The Snookerettes of Spot On D made it four matches without defeat as they drew with Belmont D. Kate Stirling had her third straight win with a victory over Charlie Groves.Clare Peaty is four unbeaten as she beat Simon Deakin to take her average to 56% for the season. Matt Newbold and Tom Holland replied for Belmont.
Wayne Brewin now hold the top three breaks in the division this year with a season leading 54. John Sharpe is still hanging on at the top of the averages with 89%-he is joined in the top four by Wayne Brewin, Mark Satchwell and Fran McNulty.
