PJM Fascias Division 1 by Mick Buckland
Tutbury B confirmed their promotion in the PJM Fascias Division One after a third straight victory-this time against Rolleston B-a result which pushes the Rollers closer to Division Two themselves. Wayne Pereira was again on form as he beat Rob Sanders.Jan Pawlazcyk continued his comeback as he beat John Harvey. Alan Davies and Kev Norris drew as did Lionel Lewis and Bill Stewart.
There were need to be a catastrophic finish to the season to stop SDSC B joining Tutbury after they won 7-1 in their inter-club derby against SDSC C. Only Nick Harcombe offered any resistance as he drew with Adam Harrison, rolling in a nice 33 in the process. Elsewhere there were solid wins for Simon Shilton, Ben Davies and Henry Tomas. A third straight defeat for the C team means there is still some work to to avoid relegation if results didn’t go their way. The big match will be away to Stapenhill B next week.
The gap between Stapenhill A and Alrewas B widened to 4 points after Stapenhill A overcame their Newhall A in a tight match with Steve Ford making the difference once again as he beat Mark Anslow. The 3 other ties were all halved-Andy Gretton and Carl Glover, Carl Jeffcoate and Martin Hurdman and finally Andy Tomlinson and Martin Hicks. The destiny of the final promotion spot is in their hands. This result also effectively ends the Newhall challenge this season.
.
Alrewas B surprisingly lost at Burton Cons C by a 5-3 scoreline. This ended a seven match losing streak for the Cons and has put Alrewas in the position of having to rely on a Stapenhill slip up. Dave Shipton floating for the Cons was in fine form as he beat Adam Walton with the other 3 games ending all square. Steve Castledine with Carl Poulton, Lee Louch with James Edwards-Lee’s eighth draw on the bounce…and Ian Shrive with Dave Trueman. This should be enough to guarantee Division One snooker again next year.
Rolleston C made it eight without defeat but their draw against Swad Cons B wasn’t really enough to maintain their outside challenge for promotion. Wayne Smith knocked in a nice 34 but could only draw with Nick Walker whilst Tom Lucas scored a good 25 but was unable to get past Paul Hollis in what turned out to be another draw. The two winners on the night were Jon Sully for Rolleston and Jake Mole for The Cons as the overall score was 4-4. This took The Cons beyond 100 points for the season and pretty much assured themselves a stay in the middle division.
Woodville S & S A stopped a run of 9 straight defeats but their 4-4 draw with Stapenhill B was not enough to prevent the confirmation of their relegation after just one season in the division. Pat Ryan was the man in form for Woodville as he defeated Greg Britton. There were draws for Jim Marcer with John Sherriff and then Alan Orpwood with Bryan Sharratt-Bryan knocking in a nice 32. Tim Knopik responded for Stapenhill with a controlled win over Bob Brooks.
SDSC D are looking in real danger as they succumbed 6-2 at home to Ivanhoe C. Graham Measures and Darren Wilson were in fine form for the visitors scoring nice wins. Gaz Dolman drew with Ryan Gilmore and Jerry Cook halved with Brian Bloor. Ivanhoe are solidly in mid table and will challenge again strongly in what is sure to be a tough division next season.
Newton Fallowell Division 2 by Mike Buckland
In the Newton Fallowell Division Two, the champions elect all season Woodville S & S C were duly crowned as they beat Alrewas C 7-1. Two of the players that have been near the top of the averages all season, John Sharpe and Mark Satchwell perhaps not unexpectedly drew their encounter but otherwise it was plain sailing for Woodville with wins for Fran McInulty, John Chambers and Wayne Brewin. As consolation, it looks likely that Alrewas will be promoted back to Division One at the first time of asking. Woodville will prove to be force in the middle tier and would be one of the favourites for back to back promotions.
Tutbury C are in third after a 5-3 win over Belmont C and are also in line for a bounce back to Division One. Dave Brady and Jeff Siddalls were the men in form for The Tutters while Paul Atterbury scored the all important winning frame by drawing with Belmont’s Brian Cutting. Terry Bosworth limited the damage for the Servicemen by beating Tutbury’s Colin Bell. Tutbury have a 3 point cushion in third over Ivanhoe D who kept up their challenge with a 6-2 win over Belmont D. Jack Bale and Jason Collins both won for the Ashby side whilst there were draws for Tony Tredger and Keith Bale against Charlie Groves and Andy Biggadike respectively.
Woodville B scored a good 5-3 win away at Rolleston D with Mark Gallagher and Terry Eiley on target scoring both frames with an extra point coming from Wayne Allen as he drew with Neil Cheadle. Aaron Doyle played some nice snooker including a 28 against Dennis Moore in reply for Rolleston.
