Burton Cons B earned a 5-3 victory at home against Swad Cons A. Simon Smith and Mark Swift both potted well to earn a frame each. Mike Buckland continued his good form as he beat Mark Hadley. Dave Shipton and Paul Slater shared two competitive frames. Finally, John Swift played well to win a frame from Andy Grainger, who made a 34 break in winning his frame.

Ivanhoe A won 6-2 against Swadlincote Snooker Centre A. Andy Marriott continued his great start to the season by beating Andy Goldingay, aided by breaks of  54 and 33. Ant Moore and Steve Ayre then won a frame each. Ivanhoe captain Mick Kirk then went up against Chris Dewey. Both players could not be separated as they took a frame each. Finally, Daniel Blunn played well to beat John Davis, aided by a 44 break.

Rolleston A welcomed champions Burton Cons A and it was the visitors that left with a 7-1 victory. Joe Docksey had chances against John Shilton, but could not capitalize on them. His opponent won both frames on the night. Graham Stevens knocked in a 30 break as he won both frames against Luke Speed. Rich O’Dell then went up against Darren Coady. The Cons’ man potted well and made a 40 break to seal both frames. Finally, Mark Press went up against Owen Jones. Jones won the first frame with some good potting. The second frame was close until the end. Press left Jones a tough long clip on the blue, which rattled in the jaws and left the frame at Press’ mercy. This completed the scoring on the night.

Spot On B and Belmont B ended all square on the night. Loz Kennerson and Brett Craddock went head to head and it was the home player who came out victorious. Steve Lane then doubled up as he defeated Zaheer Hussain. Simon Walker found Leo Worsley to be too good on the night as the visiting starlet won both frames, which included a 32 break. Micky Morris earned the draw for the visitors by taking both frames against Steve Butterworth.

Spot On C lost 6-2 at home against Alrewas A. John Hardy and Colin Wood won a frame each. Dave Mawhinney found Karl Hancox to be too good on the night as the visiting star man won both frames. John Richardson also won both frames against Trevor Heath. Finally, Tony Clements and Tom Smith won a frame each to complete the scoring.

Spot On A picked up a great 6-2 victory away at Tutbury A. Andy Speirs and Ade Harper put the visitors 3-1 up at the break as Speirs defeated Steve Hathaway and Harper drew with Steve Mabbott. Chris Mabbott could do nothing as Tom Elliott battled well to win both frames. The last match saw Dave Mabbott and Mark Stirling win a frame each with some good potting.

PJM Fascias Division 1 by Mick Buckland

Stapenhill A, one of the early season contenders for promotion, slipped up as they were beaten 5-3 away at Alrewas B. Some fine snooker was played all round by the home side with Ian Hiley including a 32 on the way to beating Andy Gretton. Carl Poulton also won, defeating Steve Ford 2-0 with Dave Trueman ultimately getting the all important winning frame in his draw against Jason Spibey, Andy Tomlinson played nicely to reply for Stapenhill by beating Adam Walton. This result brings Alrewas into the promotion equation having been relegated last season.

Taking advantage were SDSC B but only just as they beat bottom side Rolleston B 5-3. It was Adam Harrison who made the difference on the night as he took both off of Lionel Lewis. This was the 12th win out of 14 frames played for Adam. Ben Davies, Henry Tomas and Pete Maguire all shared in their respective matches against Kev Norris, Bob Tubey and Rob Sanders.

In second place is the strong Tutbury B outfit. Last week they beat Stapenhill B 6-2 with a fine performance in particular coming from Wayne Pereira. He knocked in the division’s high break of the week with a 35 on the way to defeating Barry Waller. Bill Stewart also won in the first half for The Tutters as he beat Colin Britton. The two second half matches were shared as Tim Knopik drew with Craig Keen and Daz Lester shared with Greg Britton. Tutbury, who played out of The Chimneys last season, are looking good for a bounce back to the Premier.

Newhall A remain the division’s only unbeaten side as they had a narrow 5-3 win over Ivanhoe C. The two Martins, Hicks and Hurdman, were at it again as they scored wins over Jerry Cook and Daz Wilson. Hicks had runs of 29 and 27 in the process. At half time Ivanhoe had been 3-1 up with a win for Steve Cockeram over Mark Anslowand a draw between Gaz Dolman and Nick Trayford. Newhall are just a few points from the promotion positions after having too many draws whilst Ivanhoe are just above the relegation positions having been in the Premier just a couple of seasons ago.

Burton Cons C continue their climb up the table after a horrendous start with a 5-3 win away at SDSC C. There were wins for  Stuart Roberts, who included a 33, in his win over Matt Tewkesbury and captain Ian Shrive over Ray Bancroft. Nick Harcombe had earlier won for the Swad side over Tom Egginton whilst the match between Mike Staley and Lee Louch ended all square.

Rolleston C also pushed up the league with a 6-2 win over SDSC D. Wayne Smith and Tom Lucas both won for The Rollers against the Bloors, Brian and Garton. Paul Ogden drew with Andy Bloor  as did Billy Ashton and David Wain. Rolleston will get stronger as the season progresses with their stronger players available whilst SDSC D are doing enough to keep away from the drop zone.

At the Cons Club in Swad, there was a win for the home club’s B team against Woodville A, who are seriously in a relegation battle. Adm McNulty and Nick Walker both won over Pat Ryan and Jim Marcer respectively. Bob McNulty and Alan drew whilst Tony Coleman held Woodville’s heads high with a fine win over Paul Hollis.

Newton Fallowell Division 2 by Kate Stirling

Another mixed bag of result this week for division 2! Woodville D travelled to the Belmont D in search of a result that would see them move up in the league. The visitors were all on form on the night – Bill Davidson, Andy Holloway and Dave Budworth all won 2 nil. Belmont’s Andy Biggadike saved the Belmont newbies from the whitewash but he had to settle for a draw this time and Woodville walked away with a blistering 7-1 victory to move them up one spot to eighth.

Burton Cons D have managed to stay within arms’ reach of the top two teams, at ten points adrift, they head up the tight mid table battle in third place. This week they played host to fifth placed Belmont C, Terry Bosworth made an excellent 35 break in the match which saw his team lose 6-2.

Tenth place Woodville B had a visit from Alrewas who sit firmly at second in the league. The scores were all level at the half way mark but it wasn’t to be for the underdogs as Sharpe and Sherratt of Alrewas stepped up and won three of the remaining four frames to snatch a narrow victory from the home side.

Spot ons’ Snookettes travelled across the water to Swad Cons C, Yvonne Spendlove and Marie Bridges took Paul Griffin and Pete Fern in the first half. Bridges did well to take her chance against Fern and rattled off some excellent pots to win two nil. Spendlove and Griffin had a real tussle in their head to head which saw both frames going to the final colours and a rattled black from Griffin in the second resulted in a fair draw between the two. John Griffin and Kate Stirling shared their frames and John Petcher was unstoppable against Gilda Horvath with some excellent safety play and potting to ensure the points were shared on the night!

Ivanhoe D also moved up a place this week to seventh as Jason Collins and Keith Bale both won two nil at home to Rolleston D, helping their team to a healthy 6-2 win, leaving Rolleston still seeking their first victory of the season!

Finally this week, the Woodville C played host to Tutbury C, Fran McNulty shared his frames with Dave Brady, Tutbury’ Jeff Siddalls won his tie with John Chambers. Jeff is having a fantastic season and with an impressive 75% average he is currently ranked eighth in the individual stats. So with the score poised at 3- 1 to the away team it was up to Mark Satchwell and Wayne Brewin to lose the match out for the home team and they did so in style, Brewin making an excellent break of 47 along the way! Brewin and Satchell share the Individual stats top spot with Belmont’s Dave Budworth and Alrewas’ John Sharpe, each having won 11 from 12 frames and boasting a fantastic 92% average!
