Reports by Mick Buckland

David Wain Insurance Premier League

In the David Wain Insurance Premier Division, the big match was the derby between Burton Cons A and B, with both sides unbeaten till this point. As it was, this still remains the case after a very tight encounter which ended 4-4. First up Owen Jones produced a fantastic clearance to beat Mike Buckland in the first before Buckland rallied to take the second. On the other table there was a re-rack in the first between Matt Milnes and Graham Stevens before Milnes had an outrageous fluke escaping from a snooker resulting in him just nicking it. In a similar tight second frame Stevens potted pink and black for another draw. Jon Fletcher potted well in his first against Jon Swift including a nice 42 before Swift returned the compliment with his own 44 after some fortunate run in the second for a third straight drawn game. In the final game it was the turn of the A team’s Darren Coady to take the first against Simon Smith before Simon potted nicely to take the second meaning all 4 matches were halved and neither side was able to gain the extra winning point not take hold at the top of the division.

This gave the chasing pack an opportunity to close the gap to the Cons duo and Ivanhoe A took full advantage with a 7-1 triumph over Tutbury B. Andy Marriott played Bill Stewart and it was all one way with Andy rolling in 33 and 36 in the first and a 34 in the second. The first frame between Ian Rennocks and Jan Pawlazcyk could have gone either way before Ian took it on the black. The second was take rather more easily. Dan Blunn took both frames against an out of sorts Daz Lester with some ease. In the final match Andy Thompson potted everything in the first against Ant Moore before Ant responded nicely with a good 36 of his own to square their match. This leaves Ivanhoe 11 points off the top with a game in hand.

Spot On B drew 4-4 with Rolleston A with wins for Steve Butterworth of Spot On and Joe Docksey for Rolleston. Joe knocked in a nice 41 in his win over Steve Lane. Another man in form was Loz Kennerson who had two runs of 32 in his game against Mark Press but the Rolleston man was able to cling on for a half.Lee Cooke and Bobby Cliff also played out a stalemate.

The match between Bill Davidson and Dave Brady was shared. The Cons have won three, lost three but still find themselves occupying one of the relegation positions-the Tutters have lost htree on the bounce and will need to keep an eye over their shoulders as well.

Woodville A won for the first time this season with a 5-3 away victory over Stapenhill A. Wayne Brewin showed no mercy as he knocked a lovely 40 in during his 2-0 win over Andy Gretton. Al Munnien was the man to make the difference for Burton Cons D as they went to the The Snookerettes of Spot On D and came away with a 5-3 win. In another match where one man would make the difference it was the turn of Lionel Lewis of Rolleston B to do such in his win over Stapenhill B’s Greg Britton. Again there were three halved matches-Rob Sanders with Tim Knopik, Kev Norris and Bryan Sharratt and Rob Tubey with Andy Tomlinson.
