By Mick Buckland

In the David Wain Insurance Premier Division, a high quality match took place at Burton Cons where the club’s B team took on Ivanhoe A. The B team’s Jonathon Fletcher rolled in efforts of 45 and 43 which would normally be enough to win 2 frames but Ivanhoe’s Andy Marriott returned with a 49 and a 79 clearance to take both. Matt Milnes was another man in fine form as he beat the Ashby side’s Ian Rennocks 2-0 with runs of 42 and 66 of his own. Owen Jones drew with James Hastie in a tight encounter which left Dan Blunn to steal a win against Simon Smith and a 5-3 victory for the visitors.

At Rolleston A, Burton Cons B came away 6-2 winners with Joe Docksey the only scorer for the home team beating Darren Coady, who can count himself somewhat unfortunate with the run of the balls. Mike Buckland comforatbly beat Rich O’Dell including efforts of 38 and 31. Jon Swift was not at his fluent best but had too much for Luke Speed whilst Graham Stevens beat Evan O’Dell on debut with the help of a 49 and a 30.

Belmont A are in third after beating Tutbury A 6-2 at home. Ian Archer won again, this time including a 47 on his way to victory over Chris Mabbutt. There is now a 10 point gap between the top four and the following pack. Leading the second group are SDSC A who beat Spot On B 5-3. Match of the night was between Steve Ayre and Loz Kennerson who exchanged breaks of 34 and 32 respectively but it was the Spot On man who managed to win both frames and a victory. Andy Goldingay replied for the Snooker Centre with a win over Lee Cooke and Chris Dewey was also victorious over Steve Lane. The match between John Davis and Steve Butterworth was halved.

Tutbury B were beaten 5-3 at home by SDSC B. Harry Farrell was the man to make the difference on the night as he won both against Andy Thompson. The other three ties were all shared-Alan Davies with Henry Tomas, Bill Stewart and Rich Hinks and Jan Pawlazcyk with Adam Harrison.

The final match in the division was a hard fought draw between Alrewas A and Swad Cons A.Karl Hancox won for Alrewas and Andy Grainger did similar for Swad Cons. John Richardson and Mark Hadley drew as did Lee Louch and Paul Slater.

In the PJM Fascias Division One, Ivanhoe B now lead after winning the top of the table clash with Tutbury C 6-2. Steve Butler started the match well for The Tutters by beating Adam Pickering 2-0 but that was as good as it got as Mick Kirk squared the match up at half time with a win over Steve Burrows. Ivanhoe’s Jason Pickering showed why he is top of the averages with a good win over Wayne Smith and Bren Mattley continued his good form this season by overcoming Tom Lucas.

Spot On C slipped to a second straight defeat by losing 5-3 at home to Burton Cons C. The Cons had two floaters as they have struggled to get 4 out each week in the form of Stuart Roberts and Jon Swift. Both men won with captain Ian Shrive getting the all important winning frame with his draw against Steve Gaunt. Tony Clements responded for the Snooker Club by beating Greg Read. This was a much needed win for The Cons but they are still in the relegation zone for what is always a tough competitive division.

Belmont B are unbeaten still in fourth after last week’s 4-4 draw with Woodville A. Both sides had two winners on the night-Mark Satchwell and Wayne Brewin for Woodville and Shaun Gebbie and Zaheer Hussein for Belmont. This is now four consecutive defeats for Tutbury who have played two games more than all of the sides beneath them.

A tight 4-4 draw was played out at Swad Snooker Centre by the club’s C team and Ivanhoe C. Gaz Dolman for Ivanhoe and Ray Bancroft for The Snooker Centre on the night with draws between Nick Craddock and Jerry Cook and then Chris Craddock and Graham Measures. SDSC C are still winless whilst a second straight draw leaves Ivanhoe mid table.

David Wain rolled back the years as he knocked in a 22 followed by a highly impressive 40 as he comfortably got past Gilda Horvath. They were similarly in good form as they brushed aside Burton Cons D with a similar 7-1 scoreline. Dave Powell managed to nick a frame off Kyle Cope but elsewhere Mitch Hughes knocked a cracking 49 in during his win and Jared Cronje also had a nice 42 as he beat Al Munnien. Ben Menzies was the other winner on the night as he defeated wily Jim Jennings.

There was a inter-club derby at Rolleston and as so often happens the match ended all square at 4-4. Neal Cheadle was the C team’s starman as he scored a victory whilst Rob Tubey had a nice 29 in his win for the B over Aaron Doyle.
