J Fletcher / O Jones 3 v M Press / B Cliffe 0
by Mark Satchwell
After sizing each other up a week ago in the Presidents Final, on paper, this looked to be a tasty final with four classy players on display. Fletcher and Jones showed their premiership class taking the first two frames with a string of 20+ breaks and solid safety, limiting their opponents to minimal chances.
Press responded in frame three with an early 20+ break, which should of been more, however it set up the pairing with an early 30 point lead. Jonathan Fletcher was quick to surpress the counter attack, with a classy 54 break, which looked destined to be much more, had it not been for an horrendous kick, which compromised position on the next ball. Despite an excellent recovery pot, Fletcher was left with too much to do to regain position. This set the frame up for an exciting finish and the frame was nip and tuck, right down to the colours. Bobby Cliffe had the first opportunity to keep the match alive, however couldn’t close the frame out, leaving Jones to pull out two excellent pressure pots on the Blue and Pink to seal the win.
A great match, played in good spirit, with two deserving winners in Fletcher and Jones.
