Burton Cons A, Belmont A and Spot On A all received byes into the quarter finals of the PJM Fascias Premier Division President’s Cup.
First to join them were Ivanhoe A who beat Burton Cons C away on Tuesday night. First up it was Mark Hadley for the home side versus James Hastie and both players struggled to start with before James took it at the end. James then broke down on 68 in the second with a ton looking likely but needless to say he won the frame.. Andy Grainger started well with a 61 of his own against Ant Moore, again this could have been bigger. The second frame was much closer with Ant knocking in the important balls at the end for a half time lead for the Ashby side. Ant Rushton played nicely to beat Craig Siviter in a one sided affair before Lee Wood played Dan Blunn. Dan won the first down on the colours but it looked like Lee would take the second until he missed the green and left Dan to steal the frame and the win for Ivanhoe.
Tutbury B defeated their club mates-the A- by a 5-3 margin. Doubles for Steve Butler and Jan Pawlazcyk for the B outgunned the double of Steve Mabbutt for the A.
John Shilton for Burton Cons A included a 40 on the way to brushing past Henry Tomas of SDSC A. Some hope for The Snooker Centre was given as Adam Harrison fluked the black round 3 cushions to snatch a draw with Mike Buckland. But by this time Troy Randle had squeezed past Pete Maguire in the first on the pink but then ran away with the second to secure a win for the Cons. Jon Swift and Ben Davies shared their in what was really a dead rubber.
Alrewas C won their place in the quarters defeating a spirited Ivanhoe B side and in doing so recording their first win of the season first win of the season. Carl Poulton and Micky Morris got Alrewas off to a flying 4-0 start beating Graham Measures and Darren Wilson. Poulton and Measures playing to excellent frames of snooker and Morris despatching WIlson easily. Ivanhoe B then fought back with Gaz Dolman and Steve Cockeram taking the next 3 against James Edwards and Dave Trueman. Dolman played excellently and Cockeram looked to be taking it to a doubles decider but Trueman took the draw with some excellent potting.
Somewhat of a shock took place at Alrewas Royal British Legion, where the B side defeated the A. Simon Tarrant was the man to make the difference on the night securing a victory in his match against Tom Smith with the other three matches halved.
Draw for the quarter finals is as follows…
Spot On A v Burton Cons A
Belmont A v Alrewas B (T)
Ivanhoe A v Tutbury B
Alrewas C v Burton Cons B
In the Newton Fallowell Division One version, leaders Newhall A, Stapenhill A and SDSC B were the lucky sides with a bye.
Elsewhere Belmont B defeated Burton Cons D 5-3 with wins for Shaun Gebbie and Arron Vaughan whilst Ian Shrive, the Cons captain was on target for his side. Mark Pickering and Greg Read halved to see Belmont over the line.
Belmont C joined their clubmates in the hat for the quarters with a 7-1 demolition of Rolleston A. Tom Bassett had runs of 36 and 31 but only won one frame for Rolleston as Jordan Watts, Kieron Carr and Paul; Bradford saw the Servicemen home.
SDSC C won 6-2 versus Spot On B, with first half wins for both Bob McInulty and Nick Harcombe. The Spots got two back after the break from Luke Allsopp who had a nice 30 along the way but a win for Ray Bancroft saw the Snooker Centre home.
Tutbury C had an impressive 6-2 home win versus Stapenhill B. It was all square at the break after drawn games between Dave Brady and Bryan Sharratt and then Colin Bell and Rob Kent. The Tutters turned it on after the resumption with wins for both Ian Day and Paul Atterbury.
Woodville A went down at home in the cruelest fashion-the dreaded doubles decider- to Ivanhoe C. Tony Clements and Josh Wright were winners in normal time and then it was down to Bren Mattley to join Josh who lust squeezed past the home side’s Tony and John Hardy.
Draw for the quarter finals is as follows…
Stapenhill A v SDSC C (T)
Newhall A v Belmont B
Ivanhoe C v SDSC B
Tutbury C (T) v Belmont C (T)
In the Nicholas Humphreys Division Two Presidents Cup, the highlight was undoubtedly the break of 60 had by Andy Bloor of SDSC D in his win over Mick O’Mahoney of Spot On C. An earlier win for David Wain meant the win by Adam Edwards of the Spots was in vain and saw The Snooker Centre through to the quarter finals.
The Snookerettes went down on the doubles decider against Swad Cons A. Kate Stirling earlier had a fine win to match that of Gaz Ward but it was Gaz and Andy Boam who just managed to get past Kate and Yvonne Lawrence.
Despite Warner Collins rolling back the years with a lovely 31 in his match for Ivanhoe E against Rob Sanders of Rolleston B, it only won him one frame and the Rollers came away 6-2 winners thanks to wins for Kev Norris and Mark Press. Rob Tubey and Jacob Moore drew their encounter.
Rolleston C also went through courtesy of a victory for Steve Atkin as they defeated SDSC E 5-3 with the three other matches halved.
There will be three Rolleston sides in the quarter finals with the D having a fine 6-2 win away at Stapenhill C-their first of the season. Wins for Tom Faulkener, Dale Prime and Colin Wood for the Rollers and a victory in return for the Institute by Tim Knopik.
Draw for the quarter finals is as follows..
Woodville S&S B (T) v Woodville S&S C
Rolleston C (T) v Rolleston D (T)
Rolleston B v Swad Cons A (T)
Belmont D (T) v SDSC D
