PJM Fascias Division 1 by Mick Buckland

In the PJM Fascias Division One, Tutbury B became the first team to reach 100 points as they beat SDSC C 6-2. Nick Harcombe suffered a rare reverse as he was beaten by Alan Davies of the Tutters. Bill Stewart was also in good from as he defeated Dave Tewkesbury. The games between Matt Tewkesbury and Daz Lester and then Ray Bancroft and Jan Pawlazcyk both ended all square. The Tutters win was enhanced by the fact that the next seven sides in the division were all unable to repeat that feat, either playing out a draw or suffering defeat.

In second is SDSC B but they only drew with Burton Cons C.Only Adam Harrison was able to score a victory for the Swad side whilst Lee Louch was on form for the Cons as he beat Ben Davies.Wallace Jones drew with wily Tom Egginton and Henry Tomas drew with the Cons’ captain Ian Shrive.

Alrewas B and Newhall A also played out a draw at the Legionnaire’s stadium .This match also had a win a for each team and then two draws. Carl Poulton was the main man for Alrewas by beating Nick Trayford whilst martin Hicks was on target for Newhall inflicting a rare defeat on Ian Hiley. Dave Trueman and Carl Glover were not to be separated as were Adam Walton and Martin Hurdman.

In fifth are still hanging on to some thought of promotion is Stapenhill A, though they were also only able to draw. Andy Tomlinson and Steve Ford were on target for The Institute whilst Brian and Andy Bloor replied for their opponents SDSC D, who have now dropped into the relegation zone.

Swad Cons B suffered a 5-3 home reverse to Ivanhoe C with only Adam McNulty on target for the home side defeating George Cawkwell. Gaz Dolman and Graham Measures were on target for the Ashby boys whilst Jerry Cook’s draw with Vice Draper got them over the line for the extra winning point to help Ivanhoe’s relegation fears.

Rolleston C also went down 5-3 at home this time to Stapenhill B who have managed to pull themselves out of the places lined up for the drop. Only Wayne Smith was able to score a 2-0 as he beat Bryan Sherratt. John Sherriff and Greg Britton returned the favour for the Institute in wins of Billy Ashton and Jon Sully whilst Tim Knopik and Tom Lucas drew.

The bottom two sides were not to be divided as Woodville A showed there is still life as they drew for the 5th time in seven matches and Rolleston B were not defeated for the 5th match running. The 4-4 draw though probably didn’t really do either of them much good in their battles to stay up. Bob Brookes and Alan Orpwood were the men on target for Woodville and Lionel Lewis and Rob Sanders were The Rollers star men.

David Wain Insurance Premier League by Owen Jones

Champions Burton Cons A picked up a 7-1 victory away at Alrewas A. John Shilton knocked in a 43 break as he beat Tom Smith and on the other table, Mat Milnes made light work of John Richardson to put the visitors 4-0 up at the break. Graham Stevens continued the onslaught as he made breaks of 79 and 32 as he beat Karl Hancox. Rob McMeecham spared the whitewash as he won the first frame against Owen Jones but lost the second comfortably which completed the scoring on the night.

The Belmont derby saw the A team come out on top against the B team. Mark Vaughan picked up the only two frames for the Bteam as the A team could only field three players. Arron Vaughan won both frames against Zaheer Hussain. The first frame on the yellow and the second with reds still on the table. Brett Craddock was unfortunate to come out of the match against Graham Bailey empty handed. Bailey cleared the colours to win the first and was always in front in the second. Ian Archer showed he still has a lot left in the tank as he won both against Leo Worsley. This left the final score at 6-2.

Burton Cons B won 5-3 at home against Rolleston A. Mike Buckland played well to take both frames against Richard O’Dell. Jon Swift then knocked in a superb 93 break but could only manage a draw with Bobby Cliff. Dave Plunkett shared the frames with Joe Docksey and finally, David Shipton drew with Mark Press.

Ivanhoe B hosted Swadlincote Snooker Centre A and it was the hosts who came out on top. Brendon Mattley defeated Matt Keay and Jason Smith drew with Steve Ayre to put the Ashby side 3-1 up at the turn. Jon Davis levelled things up as he won both frames against Dave Marriott. Jason Pickering showed a bit of form at the right time as he won both frames against Chris Dewey. This completed the match and the final score at 5-3 in the hosts favour.

Spot On B won 7-1 at home against Tutbury A. Lee Cooke made a 34 break as he won both frames against Dan Mabbott. Tim Hodgkinson then shared the frames with Chris Mabbott. Steve Lane then potted well to beat Steve Hathaway and Loz Kennerson did likewise as he beat Dave Mabbott.

Spot On C were on the end of a 7-1 score line as Ivanhoe A were in town. Ian Rennocks was up first against Andy Jenkins and he played well, winning both frames and making a 46 in the first frame. Andy Marriott followed that up by winning both frames against Trevor Heath, aided by a 36 break. Tony Clements then pinched a frame, helped by fluking the blue and pink. The second went to his opponent Mick Kirk. The final game saw Daniel Blunn keep up his good form as he beat John Hardy.

Swad Cons A and Spot On A could not be separated on the night. Tom Elliott potted well to win both frames against Mark Hadley to put the visitors in front. Andy Spiers knocked in a 37 but couldn’t quite get over the line and Andy Grainger took both frames. Paul Slater and Mark Stirling both potted well to win a frame each. Finally, Lee Wood made a nice 43 break as he shared the frames with Ade Harper to leave the match all square.

PJM Fascias Division 1 by Mick Buckland

The first week of league fixtures after Christmas certainly established Tutbury B as the side to beat in division one. Woodville A came to Tutbury looking to avenge their 8-0 reverse from week one. It didn’t start well for Alan Orpwood as he found himself 35 behind with 2 reds left to Wayne Pereira. Alan then had a lovely 25 and followed this by potting blue and pink to leave a black ball game. Alan knocked a great black in only to see the white go round the angles and into the middle bag. Wayne duly took the second whilst on the other table Daz Lester did just enough to take both off of Tony Coleman.Jan Pawlazcyk beat Pat Ryan and on the other table Jim Marcer had looked in control in his first but Alan Davies got a required snooker along with the last 3 colours to clear up and inflict a repeat of the 8-0 scoreline, although this time Woodville can count themselves very unlucky not to take anything from the match.

None of the five sides beneath Tutbury manged a win so that leaves The Tutters 10 points clear. SDSC B suffered a surprise defeat at home to Rolleston C, who had lost their previous 5 league matches. Simon Shilton, Ben Davies and Adam Harrison all scored a frame for the Swad side as they drew with Jon Sully, Tom Lucas and Billy Ashton respectively. Wayne Smith did the damage for Rolleston on the night as he handed Henry Tomas a rare defeat.
Ian Hiley was on good form for Alrewas B as he had a comfortable win against John Sherriff of Stapenhill B but that was as good as it got for Alrewas as they were beaten 6-2. Greg Britton was on fire as he rolled in breaks of 36, 27 and 25 and didn’t miss a ball against Adam Walton who could do nothing about it. Carl Poulton and Bryan Sherratt had 2 close frames with Bryan securing both whilst Tim Knopik won the first against Dave Trueman on the black and then out of nowhere brilliantly potted the 4 colours from yellow to blue to snatch the second.
Newhall A suffered only their second defeat of the season by losing 5-3 at home to Swad Cons B.Adam McNulty produced the division’s high break of the season with a lovely 56 in his 2-0 win over Newhall’s talisman Martin Hicks. Nick Walker was also in great break building form as well but his efforts of 37 and 36 were only good enough to win one frame in his match against Carl Glover. Martin Hurdman and Nick Trayford also one a frame each in their matches against Paul Hollis and Bob McNulty.
Joining Newhall on 68 points is Stapenhill A. Last week they drew with Rolleston B. Carl Jeffcoate was Stapenhill’s only winner whilst Rob Sanders replied for Rolleston. Kev Norris and Jason Spibey shared their match and also halving were John Harvey and Steve Ford. Rolleston are still one off the bottom but haven’t lost for three so have given themselves a chance of avoiding the drop.
Matt Hucker and Tom Egginton both returned to winning ways for Burton Cons C as they drew with SDSC D. Ryan Gilmore and David Wain returned the compliment for the snooker club and the match duly ended in a 4-4 draw
Ivanhoe C drew for the 3rd league match running, this time against SDSC C. Gaz Dolman was a winner for the Ashby side whilst Matt Tewkesbury was on form for the Swad outfit. Graham Measures played well to take a frame off of the very consistent Nick Harcombe whilst Darren Wilson  drew for the fifth week running, this time with Ray Bancroft

NewtonFallowell-BDC

Newton Fallowell Division 2 by Kate Stirling

The first league games of 2017 saw two draws in division 2 with Ivanhoe D travelling to Tutbury C the home side were looking to widen their gap in second place and stay hot on the heels of Woodville C, Dave Brady and Jeff Siddalls both secured wins for the home side whilst Brian Lowrie and John Collins battled hard to win their ties and the points were shared on the night.
Belmont D took on Burton cons at home and with a solid 26 break long the way Matt Groves secured a win for the home side while Jim Jennings took both off Tom Holland. Belmont’s Andy Biggadike continues to move up the ranks to joint 5th in the individual statistics with a whopping 83% as he dispatched Al Munnien 2-0. Belmonts’ ‘Boy-wonder’ Charlie Groves still searches for a winning frame since his fantastic start to the season but played some excellent snooker against a very steady Paul Brooks.
This week also saw Woodville C widen their gap at the top by a massive 17 points as McNulty, Brewin, Satchwell and Chambers joined forces to take out a whitewash as they played host to Swad Cons C who are now 7 points adrift at the bottom.
Spot on’s Snookettes visited Swad Cons and without one of their big hitters in the shape of Yvonne Spendlove the ladies drafted in supersub Claire Roulstone. Roulstone certainly rose to the occasion with some excellent play to tie with Swad’s Dave Bodie. Swad cons battled well and secured a 7-1 win on the night with some great break-building from Gaz Ward and a tense match between Kate Stirling and Andy Boam saw Andy take both on the black!
A reminder to all division 2 teams – Woodville D have withdrawn from the league and that fixture is now a bye

2016-17: Premier Blinds Orme Shield Round 1 report

Premier Blinds

Premier Blinds

By Mike Buckland

All 42 teams that started the league season were entered into the first round draw for the Orme Shield that was won last season by Belmont A. The format was changed to allow all players 2 frames but now potentially against different opponents as there were two draws. Three matches went to the dreaded doubles play offs, with a shock occurring at Ashby where the Ivanhoe C team put Alrewas A out from the Premier Division. Also scraping through were Alrewas B who beat Tutbury B 5-4 and also Premier side Swad Cons A who needed extra time to defeat Newhall A from Division One.

Holders Belmont A moved through comfortably defeating Burton Cons C 6-2 whilst the Premier league leaders Ivanhoe A had no problems dispatching Belmont C 8-0 away. Burton Cons A, another one of the favourites, struggled somewhat but in the end came through against a tough Spot On A side by a 5-3 scoreline.

Rolleston C were impressive as they rolled over Swad Cons C by a whitewash. Woodville A went through as they drew the withdrawn Alrewas D whilst the clubs B team scored a good 5-3 win over high flying Alrewas C from Div 2. SDSC B showed their class as they beat Rolleston D 7-1 whilst Rolleston B despatched the Snookerettes of Spot On D 8-0. Tutbury A won 6-2 against Belmont D in an all Premier clash.

Burton Cons B were just about good enough to get past Div One’s Stapenhill A by 5-3 whilst the Cons’ D team were undone by Swad Cons D in an all Div Two tie. Swad Snooker Centre’s D team got past Ivanhoe D . Ivanhoe B were grateful to get back to winning ways after struggling in the Premier this season with a 6-2 win over Belmont D. Swad Cons B had a good 6-2 win away at SDSC C in an all Div One match and Rolleston A showed their Premier class by rolling over Stapenhill B who have been struggling in Div One. SDSC A did not show for their match with Tutbury C and will be in the plate as a result. Finally Woodville C had a nice 5-3 win over Spot On B from the Premier and will be a side the Premier teams will want to avoid in the next round.

The draw for the 2nd round of the Shield, 24/26 January, is…

Alrewas B v Rolleston B
Swad Cons A v Ivanhoe B
Burton Cons B v Swad Cons B
SDSC D v Rolleston A
Belmont A v Rolleston C…all other winners will be given byes into the third round

The draw for the First Round of the Plate, 24/26 January, is…

Belmont D (T) v Alrewas C
Stapenhill B v SDSC A
Burton Cons C (T) v Alrewas A …all other first round losers get a bye into the next round…

2016-17: Half time report

Having won the league for the past nine years, Burton Cons A find themselves in second position at the halfway stage of the season, albeit having the same number of points as the leaders Ivanhoe A. Ivanhoe has had a fantastic start to the season winning all 13 league matches they played. Although they have not yet managed a whitewash, they have enjoyed four wins of 7-1, the last of which in their inter-club derby with the B team meaning they are top of the pile at Christmas. Top of their averages so far is Daniel Blunn having won 18 out of 20 played for a 90% average. Andy Marriott has also only lost two out of the 18 he has played and he’s also knocked in a league high of sixteen 30 plus breaks including the highest of the season so far, an excellent 96. Mick Kirk is also unbeaten so far this term and is boasting a 73% record. These have been ably supported by Ian Rennocks and Ant Moore and have been using their squad rotation policy to tremendous effect.

Burton Cons A lost 5-3 to the leaders Ivanhoe but otherwise have won every game including the Divisional President’s Cup Final. They returned the compliment to the Ashby side in the semi final of the President’s. They have used seven players with all averaging over 70%. The returning Matt Milnes is top of the Cons’ averages with 81% and Matt had a great 91 along the way. John Shilton has 17 wins from 22, Graham Stevens has also lost just 5 frames, Owen Jones is on 73% and they have been supported by Stuart Roberts, Darren Coady and Mick Simpkins. The second half of the season promises to be a great tussle by these two sides who are far away at the top of the division.
Burton Cons B team is in third after a strong first half of the season despite not being able to score two successive victories so far. Mike Buckland has knocked in ten 30 plus breaks and after losing 5 of the first 10 frames played has only lost two since. Simon Smith has lost only twice all season and has been cueing brilliantly. Jon Swift is also around the 2 from 3 mark and has only suffered one defeat all year. Ryan Gibbs has been unfortunate with some draws and also run but will return strongly in the New Year. Captain Dave Shipton has let these four by and large get on with it but will contribute more himself in the second half along with Dave Plunkett.
Despite having won two more matches than Burton Cons B, Alrewas A find themselves one point behind in fourth. Their talisman is Karl Hancox and he has only lost 3 frames from 26 played for an average of 88%.He has had eight 30 plus breaks and is unbeaten. Tom Smith is on 59% whilst John Richardson will no doubt have a stronger second half of the season. Rob McMeecham and Colin Wood have performed well to win frames at important time whilst Colin Kinsella has made a return to league snooker and this may improve their chances of securing 3rd spot at the end of the season.
In fifth and with a better overall team record than Burton Cons B is Spot On A. Andy Speirs and Mark Stirling are the main men with averages of 64% and 62% respectively. All 6 players used have an average of 50% or over at home with able support coming from Ade Harper, Nigel Tomlinson , Tom Elliott and Billy Newman all chipping in. They have played all of the sides above them away from home in the first half of the season so may be expected to at least hold their own after Christmas.
In sixth spot is Belmont A who have changed personnel this season and have also struggled to get consistency so far. Ian Archer is performing as well as ever with 22 wins from 26. Josh Gebbie is on 71% but has only played 14 frames. Rich Goldby has played a similar number and whilst playing well at times Arron Vaughan and Graham Bailey will both look to better results after Christmas. This side is capable of beating anybody though and will no doubt bounce back.
After 5 defeats in their opening seven matches, Rolleston A might have been fearing the worst having been promoted last season. However they have recovered with only one defeat in the last six-that being a narrow reverse against leaders Ivanhoe A. They need their main man Ant Rushton to be on song though and so far his appearances having been limited with work commitments. Joe Docksey and Bobby Cliff have been playing and doing well most weeks whilst Mark Press has joined the squad and providing some welcome experience. Luke Speed, James Wilkinson, Rich O’Dell and Brian Satchwell have also made appearances. There should be enough here to guarantee another season in the top flight at least.
SDSC A started the season well enough but have drifted away recently with only 3 wins from the last nine. Most of the side are winning one then losing one so a  little more consistency and they would shoot up the table. Andy Goldingay and Chris Dewey are performing well with 55% and 54% respectively. Steve Ayre and John Davis and also Matt Keay are all holding their own. Their result with a 5-3 win away at Alrewas A just before Christmas might be the catalyst for better things in the second half.
Swad Cons A have one of the strongest players in the league in their line up with Andy Grainger. He has won 21 out of 26 so far for an average of 81% with only one league defeat to his name. Mark Hadley is returning to form after time away from the game and Paul Slater, Simon Mansfield and Lee Wood will all take frames along with Mark Swift but these need to happen on the same night or the team may slip towards the bottom having only won 3 of their first thirteen.
After Swad Cons there is a five point gap to Spot On B. This side were delighted to stay up last year but have struggled a bit again with consistency. Loz Kennerson is top of their averages with 54%  and a number of good performances. Lee Cooke, Steve Lane and Steve Butterworth have shown glimpses of good form whilst they would probably like Tim Hodgkinson to be available a bit more often. After a great result against Alrewas A, they finished the first half with four straight defeats so will look to start January with a flourish.
Next comes Tutbury A who are slipping closer towards relegation after no wins since 13th October. They have struggled after Steve Mabbutt decided to go on his travels. Chris and Dave Mabbutt are doing well with 58 and 54% whilst Steve Hathaway is also playing well with out necessarily getting the results to match. This team though can be a match for anyone especially on their own tables so they will be confident of moving away from the drop zone.
Belmont B lost their first four matches, then recovered with some solid performances before suffering two heavy defeats just before Christmas to leave themselves in the bottom three. Only Mick Morris has bucked the trend with an average of 64% for the first half.Mark Vaughan, Leo Worsley, Zaheer Hussain and Brett Craddock have all played well at times but again it is getting everyone to do it on the same night.
The only side in the whole league without a win is Spot On C. They have however drawn 6 out of 13 matches so have been desperately close on a number of occasions. Andy Jenkins has done well when he’s played but the absence of Steve Gaunt due to illness has not helped their cause. Tony Clements has turned in some good shows but Trevor Heath and John Hardy have struggled prior to Christmas and will look to a better New Year.
In the basement position at half way, somewhat surprisingly is Ivanhoe B. They have been on a run of no wins in 9 prior to the break. Jason Pickering, Bren Mattley and Stu Tagg have played most weeks but with limited success whilst the side has used a total of eleven players in making up the numbers. Without a doubt this team will perform better in the months after Christmas.
The Premier Division’s representative in the 3 cornered President’s Cup Final will be Burton Cons A after they defeated Spot On C in the divisional final.  The 8 players in line at the moment for the end of season Ken Shipton tournament are Andy Marriott, Karl Hancox, Daniel Blunn, Ian Archer, Andy Grainger, John Shilton, Mike Buckland and Mick Kirk. There have been 132 breaks of over 30 in the division so far, 18 of which have been over 50…. with Andy Marriott at the top with 96.
It was a surprise when Chimneys A was relegated last term so no surprise at all to find the team reformed out of Tutbury near the top in Division One at Christmas. Tutbury B have lost only once in the first half and are on a run of seven straight victories prior to the break. All four of their main appearance makers are comfortably over 50% in the averages with Wayne Pereira leading the list with 90%. Daz Lester, Alan Davies and Bill Stewart have all enjoyed good starts to the season and their fill in players Dean Johnson, Craig Keen and Jan Pawlazyck have also performed well and make this Tutbury side favourites for a return to the  Premier Division at the first time of asking.
It’s nine matches since SDSC B were beaten and that’s why they are in second and another good bet for promotion. Captain Pete Maguire has himself and four other strong players at his disposal. Adam Harrison has been playing well after a lay off and is top of their mini average league with 20 wins from 26. Henry Tomas who has also played every week is on 73%. Simon Shilton has won two out of every three and has been playing well at his warm weather training camp at Burton Cons.Ben Davies is also ticking along nicely and it would be no surprise if this team were promoted at the end of the season after a few near misses.
In third is another side who were relegated last year. Alrewas B were on the wrong end of many close matches last term and were just unable to beat the drop then. They lost their last league fixture to SDSC B just before Christmas but prior to that were on a winning run of eight. Again this is a 5 man squad which is rotated, with the main man so far being the experienced Ian Hiley. He has won 17 out of 22 and has been ably supported by a very consistent Carl Poulton who is on 69%.  .Carl is also second in the divisional high break chart with a lovey knock of 43. Adam Walton has had an excellent first half of the season  to be sitting at 68% and there has been able support from James Edwards and Dave Trueman. Alrewas will also represent the division on the President’s Cup final after an incredibly tight win over Rolleston C where two frames were won by players leaving the white short of the final black.
In fourth is Newhall A after a very consistent first half. They have only lost once all season and are in with a good shout to push the top three for a promotion spot. Their only downfall so far is not being able to turn 6 matches from a draw to a win for an extra two points each time. They have rotated themselves between six players and everyone will have played well. Marin Hicks is on 63% followed closely by Carl Glover. Martin Hurdman and Mark Anslow also enjoyed good first halves and they are ably supported by Nick Trayford and Sam Hicks.
Next up is Stapenhill A, another one of last season’s relegated sides from The Premier. After winning five of their first six, they have now not won in their last four. They have not been able to put out a settled side with a total of ten players being used. Jason Spibey, Andy Tomlinson and Steve Ford all have averages in the 60s but many individual matches have been drawn so throwing a loss in has proved costly. Thye will no doubt push hard in the second half for a return to the top table.
In sixth but 17 points from a promotion spot is Burton Cons C. They started with 2 defeats, then were unbeaten for 6, then didn’t win for 4 but finished before Christmas with a good 6-2 win away at Rolleston C so a bit more consistency is required.Lee Louch has played every match, only being beaten once for an average of 69%. Ian Shrive has had a good first half of the season but they will look for a return to form of Matt Hucker who has been unable to practice and more appearances from Steve Castledine. Tom Egginton has been showing signs of his old self in recent weeks after suffering with one or two of the draws.
In seventh is a side that wins one week then loses the next. Swad Cons B has shown some great form at times but will also look for more consistency in the second half. Adam McNulty has been playing well for a 75% average so far. Paul Hollis and Bob McNulty have been his main support whilst a total of nine players have been used in total. Nick walker has won all 6 he’s played and Vince Draper has also performed well when called upon.
In 8th spot is one of the sides fancied for promotion at the start of the season, Rolleston C. They were promoted last year as The Baulkline but with having to turn out on a Tuesday have struggled to get a consistent team out. Having gone on an unbeaten run of 7, they have lost their last four. Wayne Smith is a good player and on a 70% average to date and he’s supported by Tom Lucas. Billy Ashton is also playing well and will improve but this is another side that has had to turn to 8 players and that in itself creates the inconsistency.
Ivanhoe C is unbeaten for 4 just prior to Christmas and having had three draws and three narrow 5-3 defeats, they could so easily be further up the table. Top of their averages and unbeaten for 6 himself is Steve Cockeram. Graham Measures has also had a good start to the season whilst Gaz Dolman, Jerry Cook and Darren Wilson will look to improved form in the New Year which they are all capable of having played in the Premier recently. Gaz has the division’s only 50 plus break so far with a great knock of 54.
SDSC C has reached the fifty point mark before Xmas but is on a losing streak of three. Nick Harcombe is the main man here and has won 20 out of 22 played to lead the divisional averages. Good support has come from Matt Tewkesbury whilst the two Rays, Stretton and Bancroft have chipped in at important times.
Next are the club’s D team who has won only one of their last 10 games. Andy Bloor has done well  and lost only once-he will be disappointed not to have turned some draws into wins.  David Wain had a great start to the season before 3 recent losses with support coming from Brian Bloor and Garton Bloor.
After seven straight defeats, Stapenhill B seem to have turned the corner and are unbeaten in three. They still find themselves in the bottom three but have given themselves a chance for survival.Bryan Sherratt is on 67% but has only played 12 frames. The squad is rotated between him, Greg Britton, Tim Knopik, Colin Britton, Barry Waller, John Sherriff and Stan Piechowicz – all of whom have played some good snooker but will want to improve after Christmas.
It took Rolleston B eight matches to notch a win and they have repeated this with a win immediately prior to the break. They still find themselves one off the bottom after struggling for large parts of the first half. Rob Sanders has won half of his frames but John Harvey, Lionel Lewis and Kev Norris all have the ability to pull themselves out of the relegation zone after Christmas.
The strongest side in the league-ie. holding all the others up-is Woodville S & S A. This though is a very experienced side and they will not go down without a fight as the four draws in their last 5 fixtures have shown. Tony Coleman has been in fine form with 54% and is unbeaten in seven. Alan Orpwood is also unbeaten in 5 whilst able support comes from Gentleman Jim Marcer, unbeaten in 3 and Pat Ryan-only one loss in 6.. It would be no surprise to see this team climb the league after Christmas.
Presently the four players qualifying for the Ken Shipton if the league ended now would be Nick Harcombe, Wayne Pereira, Daz Lester and Ian Hiley. Gaz Dolman is top of the high breaks pile with 54 and there have been thirty 30 plus breaks and a total of 93 players have played in the division.
At the halfway stage in Division Two, it is the pre season favourites who are making the running. Woodville S & S C who have a number of players with recent Premier Division experience had won all their matches until the last one prior to the break when they came up against an inspired Ivanhoe D. They are however 11 points clear at the top and it would take a very brave man to bet against promotion. Incredibly they have managed with just four players all season and Fran McNulty, Wayne Brewin and Mark Satchwell all have identical records with 20 wins from 24. These three amigos also have all ten of the top ten breaks in the division so far with Wayne leading the group with a cracking 54.They are supported by John Chambers and will take some stopping in the New Year.
In second spot is Alrewas C who were flying until they hit a blip in December.John Sharpe has been the main man with 19 wins from 22 to leave him at the top of the division’s averages.Alan Wilson is on 79%, Will Sherratt on 75% and able support coming from Stuart Gair, Gary Green and Roy Sherratt.
In third is Tutbury C who were relegated last time out. They rotate 5 players , the most lightly raced being captain John Peto. All 5 have averages over 50% with top of the pile so far being Jeff Siddalls on 71%. Good contributions have also come from Colin Bell, Dave Brady and Paul Atterbury. The Tutters are unbeaten for six.
Fourth spot belongs to Ashby Ivanhoe D-they are unbeaten for four including that great result against the league leaders. Jason Collins and Brian Lowrie are their main men with 67% so far. Warner “Twinkle Toes” Collins is just behind  and able support coming from Jack Bale, Keith Bale and Tony Tredger. They still have a good chance to push for promotion in the second half.
In fifth and only 4 points off a promotion spot is Woodville B. They have won more than half of their matches and are unbeaten for six straight games prior to the break. Dennis Moore has not been beaten this season and is on 77%. Mark Gallagher and Wayne Allen both have 15 wins from 24 with Terry Eiley and Bill Hunt chipping in as well.
Burton Cons D is in sixth and with losing Nathan Brooks to university have looked to wily Jim Jennings to head up their challenge and how he has responded. He sits on 67% and included a nice 34 along the way. Al Munnien and Ian Protheroe have both been performing well with valuable contributions also coming from captain Paul Brooks. They are only 9 points behind a promotion spot so could make a push after Christmas.
After a solid start, with only one win in seven, comes Swad Cons C. Their main man has been Gaz Ward with 15 wins from 18. Kieran Dadley and Andy Boam are also over 60%  and with support from Bob Birch, Dave Bodie and Simon Prince, they may make a challenge yet.
Belmont C had a tremendous start to the season with 5 wins from their first 7 outings and their run of six without a win that followed was ended just before Xmas with a win over Swad Cons D. Terry Bosworth is the star man and has not been beaten this season-he stands on 68% after a number of draws in his record. Brian Cutting and Graeme drayton are both on one from two whilst good support has come from Dave Press and Doug Lees.
Woodville S & S D comes next with Dave Budworth marshalling his troops from the former Chimneys’ side. He sits with 17 wins from 20 played with another stalwart in Bill Davidson also performing well to be on 71%, with Andy Holloway on one from two. Other contributions have come from Brian Alford, Ryan Jarvis and Tommy Tooth.
The Snookerettes are next after winning three of their first half matches. These ladies are improving every week and have produced some stunning performances. Clare Peaty has won more than she has lost and the Spot On D side would wish she could play more. Yvonne Spendlove, Kate Stirling and Marie Bridges all bring their pool experience to the table and they have able support from Gilda Horvath and Claire Roulstone.
Rolleston D is next having only lost two of their last five after not winning in their first eight.Aaron Doyle is the lead man with 9 wins form 16 in the first half. Support has come from Neil Cheadle, Steve Atkin, John Ward and Dave Bentley and they will look towards putting the good performances together on the same night after Christmas.
Belmont D won their second match of the season but have not won since.Andy Biggadike is way out in front of their averages with 78% and remains unbeaten.Every single Matt Groves frame wins have come away from home  whilst Tom Holland, Simon Deakin, Charlie Groves and Ian Gibson have all struggled at times.
Swad Cons C must like playing Belmont D has their solitary league win came from their local rivals as well as knocking them out of the President’s Cup. Jon Petcher has got to halfway with a 50% record and Paul Griffin, Pete Fearn and John Griffin have all contributed and they will hope the draws go their way in the second half.
Alrewas D had to fold just a few weeks into the season so any matches played were reverted back to a 0-0 draw.
At Christmas, the four qualifiers at the top of the averages who would play in the Ken Shipton are John Sharpe, Dave Budworth, Fran McNulty and Mark Satchwell. Top of the breaks table is Wayne Brewin with a 54 with so far 2 knocks of 30 or over.
Good luck to everyone in the second half of the season….

In the end Milnes’ class shone through and he took both frames. Paul Slater and Darren Coady then went head to head. Coady played well and took both frames. The clash of the night saw Andy Grainger play John Shilton. Grainger got in first and made a lovely 86 break to take the first frame. The second was closer but a 32 at the key point in the frame earned it for Grainger.

Tutbury B end the year at the top of the pile in Division One after completing their 11th win out of 13 with a 5-3 victory over Stapenhill A.Wayne Pereira made the difference as he overcame Andy Tomlinson. Bill Stewart drew with Steve Ford. Jan Pawlazyck halved with Dave Shenton and Alan Davies also shared the spoils with Carl Jeffcoate to leave 4 points clear at the top.

Second and third battled out for the right to the best placed side in behind and it was SDSC B who came out on top with a convincing 6-2 victory over Alrewas B who themselves had been on an 8 match winning run in all competitions. Ben Davies and Henry Tomas were the men who did the damage with wins over Dave Trueman and Carl Poulton.  respectively. Adam Harrison drew with James Edwards as did Simon Shilton with Ian Hiley.

After a run of poor results, Burton Cons C returned to winning ways with a 6-2 win away at Rolleston C. Captain Ian Shrive had a good win over Mick Taylor whilst Lee Louch had to recover from needing a snooker which he duly got before knocking a clearance in from the green in his victory over Tom Lucas. Swad Cons B and Stapenhill B shared their game at The Institute. Greg Britton won for the home side whilst Nick Walker scored 2 for The Cons. All four matches were shared – Darren Wilson with Jim Marcer, Steve Cockeram and Alan Orpwood, Graham Measures with Pat Ryan and finally Jerry Cook with Tony Coleman.
Rolleston B gave themselves some hope of avoiding the drop by beating SDSC D 5-3. John Harvey and Lionel Lewis were the men on form as they scored victories over Garton Bloor and David Wain. Ryan Gilmore as a floater won against Rob Sanders but the extra winning point went to Rolleston after Kev Norris drew with Brian Bloor.

The first was won with ease and the second on the final pink. Rich Goldby and Mike Buckland also won a frame each with Buckland knocking in a 44 break in the frame he won. Tutbury B held onto their lead at the top but only just after beating SDSC D by the narrowest margin 5-3 with the Swad boys putting up a spirited performance. Brian Bloor played well to beat Alan Davies. Andy Bloor fought well to take on off Daz Lester but it was Jan Pawlazyck and Bill Stewart who brought the Tutters home with wins over David Wain and Garton Bloor. This was Tutbury’s 6th straight win and 10th from 12 fixtures so far. SDSC D are just above the drop zone with only one win in nine.

SDSC B are in 2nd having also won 10 from 12 so far this term. They also had a narrow 5-3 win, this time over Swad Cons B. Adam Harrison made the difference as he scored a comfortable win over Bob McNulty. The other three matches were all halved…Adam McNulty with Ben Davies, Paul Hollis and Henry Tomas and finally Callum Gray, making a rare appearance and the SDSC captain, Pete Maguire. Swad Cons have gone 10 weeks without having the same result in consecutive matches…this inconsistency will see them finish mid table unless they have a change of fortunes in the new year.

Alrewas B are mounting a serious challenge to bouncing back at the first time of asking after last seasons’ relegation. Last week they were another side to have a 5-3 win….over Rolleston C. Carl Poulton scored his sixth straight win and Adam Walton his third whilst Dave Trueman scored the all important fifth frame in his draw with Wayne Smith. Ian Hiley was beaten by the Rollers’ Tom Lucas but Alrewas remain third whilst Rolleston having had a run of 8 unbeaten have now lost their last three league matches.

The fourth 5-3 win in the division of the week was played out at Swad Snooker Centre where the club’s C team were undone by Stapenhill B who scored a welcome win. Barry Waller and Bryan Sherratt were the men on target for The Institute as they beat Dave Tewkesbury and Ray Bancroft respectively. Ray Stretton and Greg Britton played out a tight draw whilst Matt Tewkesbury beat Stan Piechowicz for the home side. This was Stapenhill’s second straight win following 8 defeats which has given them hope of staying in the division. SDSC C have just had their third defeat in 4 matches but they are 10 points clear of trouble.

In a week of tight matches…the other three encounters all ended up all square. First of these took place at Burton Cons where the C team drew with Rolleston B. Steve Castledine showed again that he should be playing more league snooker by rolling in a nice 25 in his comfortable win over Lionel Lewis. This would prove to be the division’s high break of the week. The Cons’ captain Ian Shrive was beaten by John Harvey whilst both matches before half time were halved…Lee Louch with his 6th straight one all against Kev Norris and Tom Egginton with Rob Sanders. The Cons now have gone 5 without a win in all competitions. Rolleston are one off of the bottom having only managed one win all season.

In a very unusual circumstance the other two matches were both drawn 4 across with all 16 players scoring one frame each. Stapenhill A slipped further behind the leaders by drawing with Ivanhoe C and Newhall A, who have still only lost once this season drew with Woodville A.

Newton Fallowell Division 2 by Kate Stirling

This week saw some interesting ties in Divison 2 – not least the clash between the bottom two as Swad Cons C played host to Belmont D in a local Derby billed as the clash of the week! Peter Fern and Matt Groves shared the first two frames as John Griffin had a good win against Belmont’s skipper Simon ‘Toast’ Deakin. The remaining frames were shared as a solid performance from Paul Griffin saw him defeat Tom Holland and Andy Biggadike was unstoppable, once again, against Swad’s John Petcher leaving the home side narrow victors at 5-3.
This week also saw 2 draws, 2nd and 3rd placed Alrewas C and Tutbury C shared the points this week, keeping just a three point gap between the two sides. Colin Bell complied an excellent 32 break on the night. Mid table rivals Woodville B ad Burton Cons D produced the second draw of the week and they remain dead level, nothing could divide the teams on the night either and a fine display of safety and potting from both teams resulted in a fair 4 4 score-line. Jim Jennings of Cons and Denis Moore of Woodville winning their respective matches 2 nil whilst their teammates all tied.
Belmont C notched up another victory this week as they played host to 7th placed Swad cons D. T Budworth showed excellent skills to produce a nice 32 break, beating Bob Birch of Cons on the night, the home side winning 5-3.
Rolleston D are certainly on a roll at the minute and this week they had a superb 6 2 win aainst 9th place Woodville D, unfortunately Woodville could only muster two players on the night and Steve Atkin and John Ward were both awarded walkovers, However Dave Bensley and Aaron Doyle needed to secure just one frame between them for the home side, they both played well to secure draws in their ties and the home side romped to a quick victory!
The ‘Snookettes’ of Spot on D played host to Woodville Cs ‘Wonderboys’ this week and a great time was had by all! Gilda Horvath showed excellent form this week to pinch a frame from John Chambers in their draw. Marie Bridges played a tight frame against Mark Satchwell which went right down to the colours, forcing Satchwell to make sure he made big breaks in the next to keep Bridges away, he made a superb 48 break! Bridges fought hard but it wasn’t to be as Satchwell took both frames. Spendlove was once again on form against Fran McNulty who was forced to produce an excellent snooker in frame two with just the black and pink on the table to clinch the frame by one point! The’ Wonderboys’ walked away with a 7 1 win and now sit six points clear at the top.

The second went down to the final pink and it was Goldingay who pinched it. Zaheer Hussain defeated Jon Davis aided by a couple of twenty plus breaks. Finally, Brett Craddock potted well to defeat Chris Dewey and leave the final score at 6-2.

Burton Cons B also won 6-2 at home against Spot On A. Nigel Tomlinson was in good form as he took both frames against Ryan Gibbs. Jon Swift hit back for the hosts as he knocked in a 34 break on the way to beating Ade Harper. Simon Smith also made a 36 break as he defeated Andy Spiers. Mike Buckland found himself 29 down and needing a snooker against Mark Stirling. He managed to get the snooker and pinch the frame on the final black. He also won the other frame to see out the match.

Ivanhoe A beat Tutbury A 7-1. Ian Rennocks and Chris Mabbott shared their frames. Rennocks made breaks of 36, 34 and 31. That was as good as it got for the visitors however as Daniel Blunn made a 36 break as he beat Dan Mabbott. Mick Kirk beat Steve Hathaway and finally, Ant Moore won both frames against Dave Powell.

Rolleston A picked up a good 7-1 victory at home against Ivanhoe B. Joe Docksey knocked in a 49 break as he beat Bren Mattley. The top of the league now has a gap of ten points between the 3rd promotion position and fourth. The two sides just behind battled out a tight 4-4 draw which really did neither of them any good. Newhall have only lost once this season but have now drawn 5 times-this time against 3 man Stapenhill. Jason Spibey started well for Stapenhill until Carl Glover knocked a nice 32 in to win him their first. Jason hung in there to grab a share of the spoils after winning the second after Carl jawed a black off the spot. Andy Tomlinson was too strong for Mark Anslow who had an off night. Steve Ford played nicely to win his first against Martin Hicks who responded well to snatch the second. Both teams will have to play strongly in the second half of the season to mount a promotion challenge but both are capable of doing so.

Alrewas B have been flying recently and last week notched their sixth straight win-this time 6-2 against Burton Cons C, who rather like Newhall can’t get everyone playing well in the same week. There were victories for Adam Walton over Tom Egginton and Carl Poulton over Ian Shrive, whilst James Edwards drew with floater Dave Shipton and Dave Trueman halved with Lee Louch. Lee has lost only once this season but this was his 5th straight draw.
On the same number of points as Alrewas is SDSC B who defeated their own club’s C team 6-2. On target for the B team were Adam Harrison and Henry Tomas who defeated Dave and Matt Tewkesbury respectively. Simon Shilton drew with Nick Harcombe in a battle of the potters and then Pete Maguire drew with Ray Bancroft.
At the top of the pile is Tutbury B.They beat Rolleston B with something to spare last week by an emphatic 7-1 scoreline. Wayne Pereira was the starman as he rolled in a 21 and  then a 40 in his win over John Harvey. Daz Lester knocked in a 26 in his win over Kev Norris and  Bill Stewart beat Lionel Lewis. The match between Alan Davies and Rob Sanders ended all square to save the whitewash for the Rollers.
Rather the same as at the top , there is a gap developing between the bottom 3 and the rest. Third bottom is Stapenhill B after there win over fellow strugglers Woodville S & S A. There were a number of 20 plus breaks knocked in as Greg Britton scored one in his draw with Jim Marcer and Tony Coleman in his draw with Barry Waller. John Sherriff and Alan Orpwood also shared their game and it was the two twenty plus breaks from Bryan Sherratt in his win over Pat Ryan that made the difference and consigned the Woodville boys to the bottom of the table.
Two sides hovering above the relegation zone were Ivanhoe C and SDSC D and it was the Ashby side that came away with the extra winning point in their 6-2 win. Gaz Dolman and Andy Bloor halved their game in a match that really belongs in the Premier Division. Darren Wilson also drew for Ivanhoe with Garton Bloor. Steve Cockeram and Graham Measures were the main men this week for Ivanhoe as they scored wins over David Wain and Brian Bloor, Steve knocking in a nice 31 along the way.
Rolleston C, one of the season’s favourites for promotion, came unstuck 7-1 at home to Swad Cons B. Vince Draper, Nick Walker and Adam McNulty were all winners for the Swad boys whilst Jon Sully was the only point score for Rolleston in his draw with Bob McNulty.

Week 11 in Division 2 saw the top of the table clash between Woodville C and Alrewas C. Fran McNulty got the home side off to a good start beating R Sherratt 2-0 whilst Wayne Brewin settled for a draw against A Wilson. So, it was 3-1 to the ‘Wonderboys’ at the half -way mark and the match was still all to play for. W Sherratt kept Alrewas’ hopes alive by beating John Chambers but it was Mark Satchwelll who battled hard to beat an on-form J Sharp to secure a narrow 5-3 victory for the home side.

These two sides look set to be strong title contenders as only 2 points divide them at the top!

Solid outside bets for the title and promotion battle come in the form of Tutbury C and Ivanhoe – both sides sitting just 5 points behind the division leaders- Tutbury C had an excellent 6-2 win this week against Belmont C with Colin Bell and Paul Atterbury both securing 2 nil wins, whilst Ivanhoe rattled off yet another victory away to Belmont D newbies, Keith Bale and Brian Conrie both snatching wins for the visitors.

Rolleston D travelled to Woodville B this Week, Mark Gallager and Denis Moore got the home team off to a 3—1 start leaving their teammates just needing to tie, they battled hard to both draw and the home side secured a 5-3 win and are now dead level with Burton Cons in 5th place, neither team can be written off as contenders.

Burton Cons C also settled for a narrow victory this week against Swad Cons C, wins from Burton’s Al Mullin and Swad’s Paul Griffin set the scores at a tie at half time. Jim Jennings continued his winning ways as he took on Peter Fern and emerged victorious. John Petcher could only muster a draw against Paul Brookes for Burton Cons to win 5-3. This result puts Swad Cons C at the bottom of the division but with just 5 points separating the bottom three teams all eyes will certainly be on the clash between Swad Cons C and Belmont D next week!

David Wain Insurance Premier League by Owen Jones

Alrewas A played Belmont B and it was the hosts who came away with a 5-3 victory. Karl Hancox put in another reliable performance as he won both frames against Leo Worsley. John Richardson and Mark Vaughan played out an entertaining draw. Mick Morris clawed back two frames against Colin Wood for the visitors but it was to no avail as Tom Smith won both frames against Zaheer Hussain to clinch the victory.

Belmont A welcomed Ivanhoe A who are in a rich vein of form. Josh Gebbie and Ant Moore won a frame each. Ian Archer produced some good play to beat Ian Rennocks, who made a 32 break. Andy Marriott knocked in breaks of 65 and 30 as he defeated Arron Vaughan and finally, Daniel Blunn won both frames against Graham Bailey to complete the scoring.

The Burton Cons derby took place and it was the A team who came out victorious against the B team. John Shilton won both frames in an entertaining encounter with Simon Smith with both players knocking in some great balls. Graham Stevens and Mike Buckland won a frame each, Buckland making a 35 break in the frame he won. Stuart Roberts potted well to win both frames against Ryan Gibbs. Finally, Owen Jones knocked in a 30 in the first frame against Jon Swift. However, his opponent responded in the second as he took it on the colours. This left the final score at 6-2.

Ivanhoe B and Swad Cons A drew their match. Andy Grainger got the ball rolling for the visitors as he won both frames against Josh Wright. Jason Pickering and Paul Slater both won a frame each with some good potting. Stuart Tagg and Mark Hadley did likewise. It was down to Bren Mattley to win both frames against Simon Mansfield to rescue the draw and he proceeded to do so.

Swadlincote Snooker Centre A won 6-2 against Spot On B. Lee Cooke was the beneficiary of two frames as the home side could only field three players. Those three did the business however as Jon Davis, Andy Goldingay and Chris Dewey defeated Steve Lane, Loz Kennerson and Steve Butterworth respectively to earn the victory.

Spot On A won 5-3 against Spot On C. Tom Elliott found Conrad Thomas to be too good on the night as the C team went in front. Andy Speirs levelled things up as he won both frames against Trevor Heath. Mark Stirling made a 37 break as he defeated John Hardy. Nigel Tomlinson and Andy Jenkins won a frame each to complete the scoring.

Tutbury A and Rolleston A ended all square. Mark Press beat Dave Powell and Joe Docksey beat Daniel Mabbott for the visitors. Steve Hathaway and Chris Mabbott beat Bobby Cliff and Brian Satchwell to level the match up.

Tutbury B opened up a four point gap at the top after beating Burton Cons C 6-2. Ian Shrive and Wayne Pereira played out a hard fought draw whilst Alan Davies and Daz Lester produced good wins for The Tutters. Lee Louch knocked in a nice 32 to make it 8 matches unbeaten for him and The Cons but Bill Stewart is too strong an opponent to roll over and this also ended all square.

In second, SDSC B slipped up by only managing a draw away at Woodville A. Star man for the Woodville boys was Tony Coleman as he beat Pete Maguire 2-0. The response from The Snooker Club came from Simon Shilton as he defeated Jim Marcer. Pat Ryan produced some solid snooker to take a frame from Adam Harrison whilst Henry Tomas and Alan Orpwood also halved. This leaves SDSC B 4 points off the top and Woodville 2 off the bottom.

In third and beginning to look like a good bet for a bounce back promotion is Alrewas B. They followed their 8-0 demolition of Burton Cons C in the Presidents Cup semi-final with a 7-1 victory away at Swad Cons B. Adam McNulty returned to the Cons side but despite including runs of 20 and 36, was only able to draw with James Edwards who included a 26 himself. On the other table Carl Poulton knocked in the division’s high break of the week with a cracking 43 against Paul Hollis. In the second half, there were wins for Ian Hiley over Bob McNulty and Adam Walton over Ross Hollis. Adam rolled a nice 34 in whilst Ian’s win keeps him second in the Averages table, having only lost 2 frames this term.

As usual in these games, an inter club derby produced a tight affair. This was no exception but Stapenhill’s A side just about managed to get past the B team by a 5-3 scoreline. It was Andy Tomlinson who made the difference on the night by securing both frames against Colin Britton who fought hard including a 20 along the way. The other three matches were all drawn. Jason Spibey with Greg Britton, Steve Ford with Barry Waller and Andy Gretton with Tim Knopik. Stapenhill B have only had one win all season are are now 11 points from safety whilst The A team are 7 points from a promotion spot.

Newhall A kept in touch at the top by beating SDSC D 6-2. Martin Hicks and Carl Glover were in good form as they beat Rob Press and Garton Bloor respectively. Martin Hurdman and Brian Bloor shared their match whilst Nick Trayford halved with David Wain.

Rolleston C have struggled to raise a consistent side this season and this acted against them here as SDSC C played well to claim a 5-3 win. Nick Harcombe showed why he is top of the averages tree by including runs of 24 and 38 in his win over John Brentnall. Ray Bancroft also had a fine win versus Paul Ogden. Wayne Smith put up some resistance for The Rollers by beating Ray Stretton but Matt Tewkesbury and Tom Lucas shared so the bonus winning point went the way of the Swad side.

Rob Sanders opened up well for Rolleston B by beating Ivanhoe C’s Jerry Cook. Ivanhoe were coming off a run of three straight defeats but replied well to be level at half time through Gaz Dolman’s win over Kev Norris. In the second half, John Harvey and Graham Measures drew before Ashby’s Steve Cockeram won the night by defeating Lionel Lewis.

Week 10 in division 2 and Alrewas C took a well deserved break as they sit pretty at the top of the table but are just 1 point clear as Woodville C are hot on their heels! This week the ‘Wonderboys’ took on Belmont C away from home, the scores were all square at the half way mark but McNulty and Brewin both pounced on the opportunity to romp home with a 6 2 win.
4th place Ivanhoe D anticipated a touch match at home to 5th place Burton Cons D who have had an excellent start to the season but it was only number 9 ranked Jim Jennings who could muster a frame for the away side on the night. Rolleston D played host to Swad cons D and after last week’s victory Rolleston certainly had the wind in their sails as Dave Bentley tied with Bob Birch and Neil Cheadle has an excellent win over Dave Bodie, but it wasn’t to be as Gaz Ward and Andy Boam won both their matches for the visitors who walked away with a 5 3 win on the night.
The Snookerettes welcomed their regular friendly rivals Belmont D and ‘super-sub’ Clare Peaty got off to a flyer against Belmont’s Charlie Groves, Peaty’s potting skills were unstoppable and with a 24 break to boot she left Charlie to battle out for snookers in both frames, he fought well but it wasn’t to be and Clare took a convincing win. An in-form Marie Bridges also secured victory against Simon ‘Crumpet’ Deakin and the ladies were in a commanding 4 nil lead at half time! With the match poised, Tom Holland fought hard to pull the match back for the Belmont but with a missed black, after an excellent positional shot off the pink, highflyer Yvonne Spendlove put the result to bed as she shared the frames with Holland. Belmont’s Matt Groves, new to competitive match play, showed excellent skill and beat Kate Stirling 2-0 Groves is a dead cert to climb up the individual rankings this season!
Woodville B travelled to Swad cons C who are still seeking their first win of the season, Con’s Number 19 ranked Jon Petcher once again secured a 2 nil win for the home team but it was a case of too little too late as Mark Gallagher, Dennis Moore and Wayne Allen all walked away as 2 nil winners for Woodville keeping them midtable and just 12 points adrift from their second placed clubmates.
Woodville D took on Tutbury C and the scores were all square going into the second half, but with the home side only managing to field 3 players a draw was all Jeff Siddals needed to secure a 5 3 win for the visitors – keeping them third place and in line for a promotion spot!

Belmont B and Swad Cons A played out an entertaining draw. Zaheer Hussain played through pain barrier against Andy Grainger but his opponent showed no mercy as he made a 30 break and subsequently won both frames. Mick Morris won the first frame against Mark Hadley, but Hadley came back well in the second with some cracking pots to win it. Mark Vaughan rolled back the years as he made a cracking 44 break to take the first frame at a canter against Lee Wood. The second frame also looked to be going Vaughan’s way but he missed the final black, which gave Wood the chance to pounce and pinch it. Finally, Brett Craddock potted well to beat Paul Slater to earn the draw.

Burton Cons B won 6-2 at home against Swadlincote Snooker Centre A. Simon Smith potted well to take both frames against Jon Davis. Ryan Gibbs and Steve Ayre won a frame each on the other table. Daz Lester had a good 2-0 win over Graham Measures whilst the star man was Wayne Pereira as he knocked in a lovely 41 on his way to defeating Jerry Cook. Ross Hollis made the difference by beating Matt Hucker whose work commitments are making it difficult for him to get on the table. The three other matches all ended all square…Bob McNulty and Ian Shrive, Paul Hollis and Tom Egginton and finally Colin Cope and Lee Louch. This ended the run of eight unbeaten for Burton Cons and both sides sit mid table needing to improve just a bit to mount a promotion challenge.
